In other words...Management has had their spies out on the highways again...and have received the report...Swift trucks are going faster than the "policy" requires...next will be the shops plugging in to the trucks and researching the traveling history of the trucks...those with "violations" will get write-ups, and then the "hedge trimming" starts.
A few years back when fuel was hitting the $5 per gallon range...like now the "displayed price" is over $4...company will start doing everything they can to reduce the fuel cost. Overspeeds, speeding, erratic throttle usage, idling.... all these factors will be taken into account. Even for L/O and O/O for keeping the "policy" intact for all drivers and all trucks.
New speed policy...

Otter: Looking around, I can see where the hedge needs a bit of pruning.
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
My truck only went 61 on the GPS when I first got it. Then 63 with new drives. It does 62 now.
-
The pedal does 65 on mine but push accelerate and hold on the cruise control will go up to 69 miles per hour.
-
It is just about the same but the problem is now instead of your home terminal doing it the computer picks it up and send the report to the terminal. You coast to 67 you get an over speed there is no pecentage on the trip now as before anything over a .05% they could write you up now you coast over 67 you get a Qual Comm write up. There is no such thing as driftin to 69 and not being caught, been busted twice since this started been doing it the old way for 10 years an now got to retrain to stay under 65 or get wrote up
Rotten and scottied67 Thank this. -
My Jake doesn't kick in 'til 66. Just a waste of fuel and brake linings is what it is.
Or just another way to keep turn over high! Screw driver retention! -
We're keeping screwdrivers now?? Kewl!
BS on the jake comment. If you feel that way, downshift a gear...or get your jake fixed. Mine works at 55mph on a Cummins.
Floating above the governor has been a pet peeve of mine since my third week driving, when I watched as a driver for another company killed five people after losing control of his trailer while he was going down a hill over his governor. He wasn't out of gear and he tried to regain his trailer with the trolley brake and the foot brake, but landed on top of that car anyway. If he'd had some throttle left, a little bump on the fuel might have pulled the trailer right back in behind him. It was a long straight stretch, so more speed would have been the answer in that case. He just didn't have it available. Of course, if he wasn't going that fast in the first place, he proobably wouldn't have lost the trailer to begin with. But it was a horrifying illustration as to why it's not a good practice...and it left a permanent imprint on my driving habits.
If this speed policy by itself is enough to make a driver want to quit, that driver probably doesn't need to be with Swift. I wish him or her success in future endeavors.
This is all the further I'm going to comment here. I don't want to start a fight. -
all company trucks jake is set at 3mph over the curise so like his mine wont go on untill I hit 65/66 if curise is set at 62/63..so he was not bs. Guess you just misunderstood what rug trucker was saying.
-
I said "screw" instead of the F word. You knew that.
Actually my Jake works down to 1000rpm as it says in the operator manual in my truck. -
Injun you should be governed at 68. Do you run 68?
If so, why?
If not, why not?
