Best terminal to get a Repo'd truck

    OK, so taking your gallons of fuel times your 7.52 mpg, then divide by 13, you averaged 1266 miles a week, correct?

    You still have enough left over to cover the costs of your truck plus have a good paycheck for yourself?

    What are you getting for the surcharge Scotty?

    What is DCI?

    My trainer says the surcharge isn't squat right now.

    DCI is driver controled idle. They track it for the L/O just like they do for company drivers.

    Didn't see any Volvos there but did see some T-660's in the back lot which I could not get access to because of signs about unauthorized access.
    Did see a couple of 2012 Freightliners though. There were about 5 older Freightliners, several Prostars, a few T2000's and a couple of W900's turn-ins or repos up front ready to lease.

    I have only been in the truck about 8 weeks or so. Out of that time the truck broke down twice on the road, and spent 9 days in 3 different shops. The 13 week number is just a computer generated thing they spit out every quarter. Even so, my miles are way lower than I'd like. Only last week was good, 3200 miles. This week because of an oil change messed up the mojo, I sat in Phoenix for 3.5 days before getting a 700 mile load through home. Now picking up a 300 mile load tomorrow that doesn't deliver til the next day. So gonna hang with wife and son tomorrow after picking up this load then take it to Lost Angeles later that night.
    Yes if prices go up after the surcharge is set, that hurts the driver who pays for the fuel. If prices fall after the surcharge is set that's mo money baby.

    If you are a L/O, then why would they be watching the DCI? They are not paying the fuel. I can understand keeping it down for your own expenses, but why is Swift watching it?

    Scottied67,stay off the west coast and the mtns as much as you can(I speakie from experience. high fuel prices,not alot of freight and lower mpgs) Hit the south,midwest,gulf coast,and southern east coast.Constantly moved in those areas,gonna head out there myself soon.

    Swift watches it because it is part of the program they run on every truck, in every fleet. They have W.I.Gs (wildly important goals) that every fleet tries to attain. You are right that the L/O is paying their own fuel, so Swift really has no say whether or not they idle. It is a useful statistic to have. One of the things that I hear all the time on Road Dog Sirius Radio is that if you are buying a used truck, look the for one that has low idle time, all other things being equal.

    Actually, FSC is doing pretty good. 48cpm plus 4cpm west coast last week. Roughly equivalent to JCT.

    I can see why you feel the way you do about Swift. You had such awesome leadership from an awesome guy who knows so]/I] much about Swift in particular and the industry in general. If he can't get a higher paycheck as FSC rises, he is doing something wrong. Like maybe running wide open everywhere he goes and idling all the time. FSC is set up to make it so that at 6mpg, you should be paying $1.50/gallon out of pocket. That's 25cpm. Well, of course, since I'm getting 7mpg average, my out-of-pocket per gallon is $1.04. That's 15cpm. Huge difference and my cost per mile goes down as FSC goes up. Swift has been pretty good about keeping up with prices. No complaint here.
