I think yall have a bad policy. Drivers can be trainers after 6 months. And they do it for the wrong reasons.
You don't need a computer to tell you to do something. You do it because you know you need too. I couldn't be treated like that. I get out and look all the time. I know when I should and I know when it is unwarranted.
Its like I heard that swift has a gps policy. I mean come on!!! They think they have to hold yalls hand.
I was at one of yalls orientations. They treated us like kindergardeners. As you can tell, I am not at swift. But if you want respectable drivers, you need to treat them with respect.
....Oh....I don't like swift one bit. But I know the drivers are people just like me. Trying to make it. That is why I am vocal the way swift and other companies like werner. They need to treat drivers like gold. And train them for a career. Not a job.
I would love to see some stats of numbers of new drivers. I would like to see how long new drivers stay in the game. How long the average new driver stays in trucking. and maybe compare different companies....

inkeper Thanks this.

Doesn't anyone use a map anymore?
BigShrek72, Injun and KE5WDP Thank this. -

Use the map all of the time. The GPS is good for getting to a customer front door. Saves the time calling the customer, and getting directions from someone that gets to work in a car and does not have a clue.

Hey blsqueak is that a swift lease truck or did you go there with your own?? I've seen their Volvo's, Int'ls and some FL's I believe but can't remember any KW's!

Yes that's the policy, send a quick message before you back up and honk your horn while backing to simulate the beep beep beep back up alarm.
I don't do it, I don't buy into it.A professional driver should be trusted to perform their work safely as a competent employee. If you backed into something, is that little message gonna save your job?
When you're walking around the truck stops, be aware of your surroundings. Don't walk in the center of the aisles where the trucks run, walk closer to the tractors; if someone is aiming for you duck into the space between tractor/trailers and dive under a trailer if need be. Also if you find yourself between the back doors of 2 backed up trailers, consider how dangerous a place that is and be ready to run of your life or just drop to the ground in a hurry and be below the ICC bumpers if they were to bump each other some reason. -
