Unless it was a DOT or highway patrol officer, I'm not suprised they didn't ask for logs since most local PD don't have the authority (or training for that matter) to enforce HOS rules.

God himself could take his mighty hand, knock your truck clean off the road and say "PWNED!"and the safety people would still deem it preventable.

OK thats my favorite reason for it to be my fault so far. :) Anyways truck is fixed and I'm on to the next load. So far no one has called me or sent me any messages so if anything it will be like someone else said, when I least expect it, on a Friday no doubt they will put me on hold and tell me take a class or something.

As far as the report I did call already and they said I have to wait 2 weeks to be able to request a copy but you can be sure I will be doing that. That doesn't really seem odd to me as its the same way where I'm from.

Generally thats exactly what I do, ohh traffic on ramp, quick look in mirror to dbl check whats going on next to me and adjust if needed. Unfortunately in this case it was a curved ramp and on an incline, and the highway was also on a slight curve so visibility was not ideal.

Oddly enough the dispatch I'm on will take me right up past that very same ramp tomorrow and you can bet I will be keeping a careful watch there. Just the general layout and the LEO's reactions kinda make me thing merging problems happen a lot there.

Tell me this though, if I did put my signal on to try and get the other truck to let me over and he didn't, now the 4 wheeler thinks I am getting over and it could really be considered my fault. Thats why I don't signal in a case like this unless I know I can get over. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my thinking on that.

Signal your intent. You intend to get over. Whether they let you or not is up to them. Usually turning on the left turn signal to make way for a vehicle coming up the onramp is an open invite for everyone who was previously peacefully driving in the hammer lane a few hundred yards back to drop the hammer and try to come up the driver's side of your trailer to get a closer lookie at the purdy bliankin' laught flashin' on n' off like 'at.

Blinking lights and shiny stuff now I understand why the average person likes to hang out on the side of trucks. For some reason they are just attracted to flashing lights and shiny chrome, I should have figured this one out sooner. I used to think they just thought the blinking light was us just telling them where we wanted them to go.

All kidding aside I just got to expect the stupidest most unexpected things from people. I really don't think anything would have helped me on this one but it was still a good lesson on just how dumb and how little regard for their own life some people can be around trucks. It still kinda blows my mind cause in my 4 wheeling days I would give the big trucks extra room, I didn't want to find out what would happen if we met or if that tire blew while I was on the side of one, guess common sense is just not that common.

No offense intended to anyone from Missouri but being from Alton IL it doesn't surprise me at all that this happened. I drive in st. Louis quite a bit and I have seen some crazy drivers. I have seen people cross 3 lanes and take an exit without so much as a turn signal. I could only imagine driving through there with a rig would be scary as hell. The worst part is that people will see you put ur turn and speed up and not let you over on purpose just to be jerks. Last year I had a guy get road rage and follow me for miles honking, tailing me when I had my infant son in the car. He was only a wk old.

I'll be surprised you don't get a preventable. I had one for a couple of weeks until they ruled it non preventable.

Mine was running over a gator tail and it ripped off the fuel line.

I still had to talk to safety and fill out a written report.

Well so far I have not heard anything about it and so I'm just still running around the country like usual. As of right now not showing up when I log in but I have no idea how long that would take or how long it would take them to decide. The lady I spoke with in claims told me I would hear from safety in 3 days and its been double that now.

Must be slow for freight in the midwest, they are having me deadhead from the Iowa 80 all the way to AR, 560 mt miles, I have racked up almost 1000 mt miles in the last week alone.

Check your stats online and see if you have a preventable on the driver portal.

I was deadheaded from NJ to Romeoville IL before. Birmingham AL to Columbus OH. Once from Memphis to New Boston MI.
