I'm sure they were lying to me when they said that Alliance doesn't run dedicated anymore. It wouldn't be 1st time.
    More power to you!

Well Kokot, maybe I can answer a few of your questions.
I know emulsified. I drove with him for 16 years when he had his company. I also owned 15% of the company.
Yes, he has been driving for closer to 40 years now. He originally started driving for my father in law.
We've known each other since we were both 5 years old back in 1953.
As for why he runs with Stevens? You'll have to ask him, however, he's the one that convinced me to come to Stevens.
"Found a good gig without the BS" were his exact words.
Yes, he did retire once already. So had I, after we sold the company.
But things being what they were and our general partner having not paid the taxes, left both of us having to go back to work.
Leave this business for two years and you're a newbie all over.
That may explain his coming to Stevens originally.
When I came, I went directly into Alliance as soon as possible. He waited a bit, so I finished my lease first. He has a few months to go.
I just purchased my truck. I think he'll probably do the same.
I haven't driven as much as he has, but I can tell you he started in 1972. Right after we both got back from Viet Nam.
So scoff all you want. I can vouch for his time.
As for income? There is no reason a driver cannot make close to 0.50cpm if he's careful, dedicated and works hard. I do.

Sorry. Still not convinced. By what you've said, you both are with Stevens for over 2 years yet his truck is still governed @62.
    Not buying it.

But hey, I don't trust our government either. So don't feel bad. It's not you. It's me. :D

I can't find where he says his truck is governed at 62. But I stopped looking at January.

What do you not understand about that quote.Dont have to burn up the road anymore.Pretty self explanatory there. He doesnt care if his truck is governed at 62.Saves fuel.keeps the temptation away.Pretty easy to understand there. You dont have to get your truck turned up. My truck is turned up,do I run at 66.Rarely,only when needed. You do not make money in this system running flat out wherever you go.

Now tell me if som, eone with 38 years experience would post something like this:
    Or this:
    This is funny: (snipped)
So now he even has a degree in ancient languages. I guess he wrote that article and worked on his degree while driving truck as O/O then. Funny.

getting a degree while on the road is easy, even in the 80's. Trucking does not take up the whole day. Today it is quite easy to study on the road, and expand ones horizons, something many people should try, instead of just wasting their time saying how a person is not who they say they are on a truckers forum.

Kokot, we all understand you have a bone to pick with Stevens, and that it is not for you. Fine, state why it is not for you, instead of bad mouthing someone who does enjoy working at stevens.

    My goodness!
Take off for a few days and I become the center of controversy.
Apparently someone likes to snivel about another without knowing, much less understanding the facts.
I'll deal with you later, Max! (loudmouth!)
    So my credentials are outed?
    Ooohhhh!
I guess one considers a driver to be consumed with nothing but driving.
I hate to break this to you, K, but not all drivers are OTR.
I did, in fact, start driving in June, 1972 for a company called ONC out of Portland.
And as Max so eloquently blabbed, my first boss was his father in law.
    But I digress.
I do have an undergrad degree in ancient languages, but that prevents me from doing what I like?
I have never said I spent 39 years in the cab. I have been a driver for 39+ years, but some sponsored far less miles than others.
As a matter of fact, the last five years, before closing the company and retiring, I probably averaged less than 30,000 miles per year.
The curse of being an owner and running a business.
Yes I was an owner op. As a matter of fact, we owned 14 trucks as well as other 'stuff'.
But life being what it is, and turns in fortune, can cause the best laid plans of mice and men to change.
Hence I am back, but now, full time in the cab.
I will forgive your petulance and naivete, due to your youth and inexperience.
But what the heck. You will call this post BS as well.
The nature of one so postulant with the fervor of acirmony.
Oh...and as to my governed speed?
90% of our business was in California, Oregon and Washington.
I spent so many years driving in 55mph states, that I have become conditioned to 'slowness'. I don't care if I speed. MPG's and profit are more of a motivation than speed. I leave that to you youngsters that still have to 'prove' they can.
I can have my truck turned up. What for? Now with students, it's better to keep it lower so they don't accidently creep up. And I go to Canada, so it has to be limited.
BTW, K. who do you drive for? Or do you? What credentials do you espouse that qualifies you to validate others?
As we use to say in the 60's (yes...I lived back in those ancient days)
    "Peace and Love"
