Hey now Injun, that's almost a slam again the Almighty Swift! Be prepared to receive a a scathing response from a poster here on TTR that everyone here that hates Swift claims to be a shill... :)

Meh....to truly hate something, you have to know it and understand it. Most of the badmouthers don't know squat about it. All they have is rumor and conjecture. There are a few who have been there...like RookieTrucker. He worked for Swift long enough to find it wasn't for him. Therefore, he puts forth what he believes to be an informed opinion. As for the rest? Their opinion means about as much to me as a fart in a sewage treatment plant.

If you think this was a slam, check this out:

Injun would never really slam Swift, but she will bring up and point some serious faults that make it hard on the exp drivers, and us L/O, like for an example, I am now on Safety hold, 90 day DOT inspection needed, and I just returned back to the States.

    Perfect example today...........

Sitting in my truck getting loaded, Swift Volvo comes driving down the aisle way too fast! Missing half the front bumper, missing the lower fairings completely on the passenger side, and the rear fairings are all crumpled in!

He backs into a spot to drop his trailer, dollys down, pulls his pin and climbs back in his truck, at this point I try to radio him to tell him that he forgot to unhook his lines.............no answer on the CB.

So I lay on the horn real good but this clown just put it in gear and instead of easing out from under the trailer, he FLOORS it!.............:biggrin_25510:

Luckily his lines didnt break but they popped off of there really hard!

Heck, I have over 20 years exp, and I have made that same mistake myself once or twice.

Lots of Swifties just get in too big a hurry. Just like any other segment of the industry.

But that was pure stupidity. It would be nice to weed them all out, but that isn't likely to happen.

Just cause I'm a staff member does not mean I have to be impartial on a company.

For the second part in red, I sure hope your not referring to me as a know it all super trucker. :biggrin_2554:

I've seen the same thing and heard this from many of the drivers from different terminals.

I have seen a couple of freight bills that Swift got paid on loads. For example; I hauled a load with 714miles on it, the freight bill was for $1428. A whopping $2 a mile !! What really ticked me off about it was, I only got paid for 642 miles minus Swift's 10% routing crap. When I drove the full 714 miles. This was not the only freight bill I've seen and understand why they are being taken to court. They are getting paid the full amount on the miles and shorting the drivers.

I'm not giving a opinion on Swift, I state facts on what I've seen at Swift.

I know their is no perfect trucking company out here and I've worked for a few of the mega carriers. I have also worked for small carriers as well. I'm not out to totally bash Swift but they were by far the worst of them I worked for in the trucking industry. The condescending manner they talk to drivers is very degrading and unhealthy for a company. The stupid rules they implement that someone higher up had a dream about last night. I could go on but what's the point, drivers will come and go from Swift and see there is greener grass on the other side of the highway.

I would rather work for a small company and be known by my name. I can walk into the office and people shaking my hand and feel appreciated. Something these mega carriers could learn. I get paid fully for anything I do, including if I wash my truck on my own time at home.

My experience is vastly different from yours. I can walk into any of ten terminals and be called by name.

And, considering the independents who are willing to haul freight for $1.25/mile and some even less, $2/mile really isn't that cheap. I know Prime is willing to haul for a lot less than that...having seen the freight bills and been paid percentage over there.

Do I like the HHG mileage pay? No. I think it's BS throughout the industry. We'll see where this lawsuit goes and what changes it may make for the industry as a whole. I happen to know, though, there is always a trade off.

When the O/O's sued and won previous holiday pay, the judge based his decision that they were, for all intents and purposes, company employees, on the offering of health insurance to contractors. Well, guess what....Swift no longer offers health insurance to contractors. The trade off. It wasn't crap insurance, either.

Now, if I want a comparable plan, I have to pay nearly twice as much on the open market.

So. I wonder what the trade off will be for this mileage thing...if the plaintiffs win. Whatever it will be, it will send a ripple across the entire industry.
