Some of these places gots to do better, and they need to pay more than 8 hrs detention. All the grocery facilities take their time US foods, giant, etc mohawk flooring in GA. What has been your longest wait time?

18hrs at Georgia Pacific to load Paper Roll Stock... wasn't really their fault, sorta kinda was, but not really.. they ordered a truck, but didn't have an empty to load the freight on, so i had to wait for another driver to bring an empty from our yard. it took 18hrs because they didn't tell me what the issue was until 8hrs had already passed, and then i had to inform dispatch, and since it was already nite time, it went to nite dispatch which is worthless, and i had to call again in the morning and let regular dispatch know what the deal was. they had a truck bring an empty up in about five hours.

When I first started driving I made a delivety at a frozen warehouse in Westfield, MA. I sat there for 28 hours befor I was given a door. Once at the door, it took them over 12 hours to get trailer unloaded. Needless to say, I do not go there anymore. Reason may be explained at a later date, I am banned from there for life. LOL

lmao.... sounds like Del Monte.. they know we hate sitting there, but they don't care. they believe if you've only been waiting two hours for a door (four hours after your appointment time) and only have been sitting in the door for an hour and a half then you're still doing good. i dont get mad, i just make sure i send my "detention probably" micro three to four times and then try to figure out how long i need to sit to do a split birth or in del montes case, a full 10hr break.

Had one last month. Show up at the shipper at 2200 on Tuesday. Told it will be at least 12 hours. 12 hours later, told they are no further along and will be another 12 hours.

I was trying to get home, DM got me off the load and got home on Thursday. Friday at 1130 I get a phone call from the shipper telling me my load was ready ... lol.

In 1990 I had to wait about 40 hours in Plainview, Texas at the flour mill. Turned out they couldn't get the taco flour mixed just right. I was a company driver for JBH at the time. The mill kept telling JBH "3 or 4 more hours- we're almost done".

In those days detention didn't exist. Dispatch finally sent me to Amarillo for an Owens Corning load. I've refused to return since.

A day and a half at Wakefern in New Jersey, then charged over $200 for a straight pulloff.

Two days at Tyson Garden City, KS

Three days at Cargill Plainview, TX

All while running under Prime's authority. No detention pay and had to repower both (good paying) meat loads to teams and pick up less than desirable loads as "replacements." Have I ever said I'm happy to not be hauling grocery into DCs any more?

As far as where Swift goes, the worst has been Kroeger/Fry's in Tolleson, AZ. I went there once since being back with Swift and have refused every load going in there ever since. My reason, "Customer takes too long to unload." Never have gotten any flack about it. But I'm leased, so there's not much they'll say to me.

Last October (2010) was delivering to a customer in Delaware (not important to the story) anyway, del for Friday, couldn't make that time. So Mac 22 and rescheduled for Saturday morning. Got there and they unloaded just 2 pallets then declared night crew would finish the load. Wait around all day, check in with night crew they were curt with the 'that ain't our job' response. Sat there all day again til Monday morning got unloaded and a big fat service failure. Tried over and over again to fight it then teamed up with my mentor couple months later. After I came back solo, DM didn't want to revisit the issue so the SF just fell off the other day after a year. Finally can use Mac 30 again, what a relief!
