We have D&H account with Schneider. The drivers drop in the yard without the trailers being inspected. When they are brought to the dock, 3 out of 5 need to be swept out. My Supervisor has said that if this trend continues we will start refusing the empty trailers & have them come pick them up.

Any one else on docks have trouble with dirty trailers? What does your company do about them?

Best to emphazise to Schneider management your requirements, IE, clean trailers and roadable trailers. If you have a guard shack, the security guy can "inspect" inbound trailers BEFORE the driver drops them. If not, you might hire a grunt to do so. A lot of drivers are LAZY, or rushed, and just want to get moving. That's understandable, however, you're entitled to clean equipment.

What Allow Me said. Also, D&H trailers are often loaded and sealed, so the drivers who drop them don't know the condition of the inside. Some shippers require a clean, swept-out trailer and they do check before loading and refuse dirty trailers; some don't even look.

Laziness and being too much in a hurry on the drivers part. We have this problem also where I work. Simple remedy would to send everyone on this account a msg stating that the trailers need to be swept when dropped and when they are not, find out who dropped it and charge them $10 for sweeping it out. Money out of pocket fixes things quite fast.

that or inspect the trailers first before dropping and if they need to be swept refuse to release the load to the driver before the dropped is clean. Pretty easy fix, I think. If there is a gate guard then have him/her look in the back.

GP inspects trailers before allowing them to be dropped.

Clorox, and most paper mills inspect the whole trailer. Leaks, tires dents, some even the VIN. If the trailer is to old they won't take it.

Yeah pretty much any place I've ever done an empty trailer drop they always checked the trailer at the gate.

charge the driver 10$ to sweep it out?? even if the driver swept it on his own he wouldent be paid to do it. make the loader sweep it he gets paid by the hr not by the mile.
