There's a huge value in the tickets and accidents you're (and the many millions of company drivers throttled back to 62) not getting- to both you , your carrier, your carrier's customers and the general public. I go 58 as an owner operator. Yeah maybe I missed out on that extra load for the week but the fuel mileage I got for the loads I did do were just as profitable as going full out full stress all week for 1.5 miles per gallon less. The coolant and engine oil temperatures are not operating at constant near maxxed out heat, so there's value in less wear and tear there.

Maybe companies should just start paying percentage with the drivers paying for their own fuel. Bet that would stop the complaining about not being able to drive 70

I just got a new truck, ad a company driver I still want to keep it in good shape and keep my mpg's up. I don't think, but know even if i was an o/o id run the same as now. If i got the time, ill run 55. If I'm pressed then ill run 63. But for my truck, its a difference of. 5-.8mpg's.

    Simple mathematics-

If you THINK you can run 70 mph (which means you will go 70 miles in one hour), you are omitting the time it takes to get to that speed in the first place. Your truck does not do Zero-to-seventy instantaneously.

So factor in the getting up to speed and slowing down to stop "mph" into the equation and see that your 70 mph is actually, in all reality, 55 mph over a course of getting from point A to point B.

That's what a lot of people don't realize. They think I can do 70 so that 770 miles in 11 hours driving. In reality, you might get 9-10 hours in and in that only cover 600-650 miles(if you run 70) Using that last hour to find a place to park.

I know not everyone does this, but I'm on e logs. I've had some luck where ill start in the morning, find a truck stop exactly 10 hours from me, and ill get there. I usually end up getting parked with about 20-30 minutes to spare because the other 30 minutes or so were used up from slowing down and accelerating from when i take my breaks along the way.

I just parked for the night now and my daily average was 60.8 mph driving 66 mph. Started in medford wi, delivered and loaded in aurora ill and am parked for the night in menomie wi.
    R
Yesterday was 621 miles in 10:43 hours.

You manage your time, you can get 620+ miles a day easy.

Yeah okay. There are days when I will sacrifice fuel economy to pick up the pace. Case in point--Today I took over a load from a another driver. I took it from him at Biloxi MS last night and shut down for being out of hours. When I got the information, I realized I had 11 hours to go 570 miles to Temple TX to deliver by 2100, including my fuel stop and going through Houston. I hit the governor as much as I could, and my arrival went from 2145 to 2045. One whole hour saved after 11 of torture. So.... How much money did I earn?
