A word to the wise of recent CDL grads. I just graduated CDL school not to long ago and I was doing some research on companies that I wanted to go with.I heard to many horror stories on some companies (even the 1 that pre-hired me while I was still in school) you all know what companies I am talking about so there is no reason to get into all that.Anyway I came across this company (MAY) that sounded pretty good,so I submitted my app on line and was contacted by a recruiter the next day.The recruiter was telling me about the company and blah blah blah.Anyway she told me that she was going 2 call tomorrow to give me my bus Comfirmation#.The next day she calls and she tells me the comf.#I get to the bus station on the day I was supposed to leave come 2 find out that the comf.# she gave was invalid!!WTF?!?! this was on a sunday and orientation started the next day in Phoenix.At this point I am Pissed off.The next day I contacted my recruiter and told her the 411.She tells me that I must of made a mistake and I was supposed to be on that bus.WTF?? She then told me that the next orientation was not until the next monday.I told her that I didn't want to wait any longer and that I wanted to hurry up and get trained.I then asked if there was another terminal I can go to.She says yes there is one in Salt Lake City and if I could be there by the next day.I said yes and she asked if I wanted a bus ticket for SLC and I told her NO that's how things got screwed up and I was going to drive myself there.She says no problem in fact that will work out great so when you come back from training you could drive to the fontana terminal to get your assigned truck.She also told me to save all my gas reciepts and I will be reimbursed at the terminal. I go to Salt Lake City and went to the hotel they were putting me in.The next day I meet with a group in the lobby who were also going to orientation.We get to the terminal and started the paperwork process,drug test all that then out of nowhere this guy comes up 2 me and asked if I am ready for my driving test.I said OK not really knowing what wuz up but I was ready.We get in the truck and he tells me to go out of the yard and out on the street,fine no problem we go down a few streets then he tells me to drive into the yard.I did we were approaching some barrels that were lined up in a squire and he tells me "I don't care how u back in just back in" so I started to back into the spot and noticed that I was a little bit off. I G.O.A.L. and straightened the rig out and backed in.The road tester was very angry with me because I G.O.A.L. I then told him that that is how I was trained in school.He then told me to wait 4 him in the office. He comes in and slams the door & said "I'm failing u"!! I asked why he was failing me and he stated that he did not have 2 give me a reason. WTF?!?! now im really pissed off!! I then go to the terminal and asked to speak with a supervisor.I talk 2 the sup who was a real arrogent hole and he told me "well you must have done something" and I told him no the only thing that I did was I G.O.A.L. then he tells me "I'm sure that is not the reason why" now I'm HOT AS FISH GREASE!! I said well just give me my reimbursement $ on gas that wasted coming here.He informed me that "oh we don't do that here u have 2 take that up with your recruiter"WTF?!? needless 2 day I contacted my recruiter as I was leaving and she tells me that the road tester told her that I "JUMPED A CURB AND FAILED 2 BACK IN PROPERLY".WTF?!? I said that is total BS. I then asked if I was going 2 get reimbursed for that gas I wasted and she said "they were supposed 2 give it 2 u when u got there. I said well they did'nt and she replied "well there is nothing I can do about it at this point."I said What the ever and hung up the phone.SO again I say all my fellow newbies out there stay as far away from this company as possible!!!! U HAVE BEEN FOREWARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()

It's no surprise the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at May. I used to see May's advert ALL the time in the Salt Lake Tribune's help-wanted ads. I never bothered to even apply there because of that reason. Looks like once again I am made out to look like a genuis for not trying to hire on at May in the past. This is a past that will also be prologue, as I'd never apply there in the future, either.
Thanks for the heads up for all the others out there that may not have seen all those help-wanteds back in the day. I know what May is, but others may not. -
I'm just guessing that May found out more people showed up for orientation than they planned for.
Some Sluggo was told to flunk "X" number, so he picked out someone who he thought wouldn't cave in his skull with a tire Iron.
But, Karma's a ##### and his little favor to the company will come back to bite him a thousand fold. Guaranteed!

As screwed up as trucking companies are, I have to believe that could very well be true.
Maybe he was an innocent victim of a weed-out move. -
I am trying to stand up for the company, the guy, or not trying to attack you.
They guy that tested you his name is Mike and he is by the book type of guy if you would of hit a curb on your cdl test they would of failed you just for that and that is what all companies go by is the cdl requirements.

YOU WERE FAILED BECAUSE YOU JUMPED THE CURB NOT THE G O A L THEY WANT YOU TO G O A L THAT IS WHY ALL OF THE TRUCKS HAVE IT ON THE MIRRORS OR THE WINDOW.
#2 The recuriter does not tell you but you are only rembursed only after you are an employee and that happens on the third day of orentation.
The turns right outside that yard is a b**** because I was based out of that terminal I was the only one in my class that was able to miss those curbs.
I am no longer there due to the way that my dispatcher was running me and not allowing me to have the proper homtime and not following the company hometime policy.
I also did not like being out by myself it got booring and I got lonely.
They also still owe me mnoney for dentention pay that was prommised. -
Hmmmm....this takes us back to an argument Burky and I were having here last week. The driving test was given supposedly before the guy was hired on. How could this be? If he's not an employee, he can't drive the rig. Insurance won't allow it. He MUST have been employed when he took the test, meaning he is due the reimbursements.

May is self insured they tell you every day of orentation that you are not an employee untill you actually get a driver code.
They can get away with it even if they were insured with an insurance company all they would have to say we took a prospective employee out for a road test.
I prefer not get in to the legal aspects of it because I do not know exactly how it works that they make you do a road test, drug test
before you are even considered an employee.
Even though people get prehired before they attend orenatation sounds a little messed up to me. -
Just took the driving test today for May
been driving centurys and got put in a long nose pete and hes right that 1st turn is a royal blody ###### I BARELY made it, but I was told "curb a tire you go home" but all in all I happan to thnk that May is a decent company with no B.S but im only on my 2nd day of orentation

I thought about the possibility of May being self-insured about two minutes after posting, but didn't change it to take into account that possibility. So they need drivers, and are begging for drivers, yet they'll say NO to a guy just for running up on a curb in a tight place. -
I have read all the replies on the thread that I started and I want to make it perfectly clear that I DID NOT REPEAT DID NOT JUMP A CURB with ANY part of the tractor or trailer!! I know this because if I did I would have failed right then and there and furthermore he would have told me to go back to the yard.He did not do this he didn't mention ANYTHING about the curb at all while I was driving.Again I know this because it is the same thing at the DMV if you jump or hit a curb with the tractor or trailer it is an automatic fail.When he told me "I'm failing you and I don't have to give u a reason" Bull but tells my recruiter that I "jumped a curb and did not back in properly" as I mentioned in my thread that what HE told MY recruiter was a balled face LIE!!!!! and that is the honest to god truth
