I know that in one area the walmart fuel is substantially cheaper.

if a gallon of fuel is going to make or brake you, you need to rethink your money making strategy

My friend, that story of yours is EXACTLY why I don't do business with Flying J or Pilot. Both of them of PORO's (Point Of Rip Off) and now that those two companies are now ONE, I would guess that it's gotten even worse. Sure there's lots of trucks in those joints when I drive by, but I choose to stay away.

Say what you want about saving a little money but a few dollars saved when you are setting in the parking lot and easy to get, if a O/O saved 7.00 a day that is 2,555.00 a year. Have to look at the big picture, the OP is running a Hot Shot rig and should not have to unhook or drop the trailer to get in.

Now think for a minute, if a O/O could find simple yet easy ways to shave off 25.00 a day in savings that would be high quality rubber every year for a tractor.

Not just a gallon driver but the strategy is what counts.........and it works in my eg:

My carrier charges me between .95 and $2.00 as a swipe chg for Comdata use..... ok fine, B.S. but fine. So I use a self funded Paypal Mastercard to buy my fuel. I beat the swipe chg PLUS I get 1.5% of the fuel chg as cash back.

I save around $900 a year in charges including getting the cash back, that's a chunk of cash for just some creative thinking, yes?

The card is free, use the smart phone to make the tfer and funds are available immediately...... JMO

I have started back to using some of my old fuelstops after pilot changed. I buy enough to keep a free shower on my card and the rest If I know its cheaper elsewhere I go there or if I park somewhere for the night I may buy fuel there cause I parked there. If pilot gobbles everyone up we will see what they really have in mind for us. Gas is one price fits all and diesel depends on how you pay? That shows who's business they really want.

Never thought about a paypal mastercard? Whats the annual fee? do they report it to credit reporting agencies? I been using bank visa/check card and it's instantly funded thats why it pisses me of to pay .06 more.

Nope it's free, just set up a paypal account @www.paypal.com and no they don't report to anyone. ( cept mama Ebay )

Link it to your bank account so you can add funds.....get the premiere / business account ( when you select ) and enjoy the savings.

Take about 2 weeks to get card, 3 days to verify bank account and 3 days to add funds from ur bank.......

This happens to be a subject I've studied in detail. I run out of a walmart dc. They have their fuel on the yard at a discount. Here's the problem with your logic,no offense. They buy the cheapest fuel they can. I can get .5 mpg more by using Petro/TA fuel. So, even though the price is less per gallon,at Walmart, it doesn't go as far.
Let's say you drive 1000 miles getting 6 mpg with Walmart fuel priced at $3.80 per gallon. You would have to buy $633.30 worth of fuel. I make the same 1000 mile trip getting 6.5 mpg with fuel I purchased for $3.87 per gallon. I would only need to purchase $595.36 worth of fuel. Saving me $37.94 in fuel cost for the trip even though I paid .07 cpg more.
Then there is the other costs due to the cheap fuel such as injector wear and fuel filter changes. And to top it off my truck makes better/more power with the good fuel.
