Vet status means the employer might appreciate your service, loyalty, honesty, easy to train, easy to adapt to job requirements, and ability to work under stress. All great attributes and characteristics of a typical service member. Again though, "what do you have to offer that sets you apart from the resume below yours? And what experience and qualifications do you have that will enhance our company?". Sucks, but that is the bottom line. My VA service rep told me those words when he helped me write my resume. And he was right.

Well. Good luck regardless. Be sure to check out the practice written tests that are on here. It will help out a lot. You should also look into one of those CDL books that they sell at Barnes & Nobel. Best $20 I ever spent.

Lol. Dunno. Mine was "hoff" in the desert, but my convoy crew gave it to me. I don't know how it works on the civilian side. I don't use a handle anymore.

Have you looked into tankers? Obviously Florida has tons of food grade carriers hauling milk and juice, but there are also more than a few companies running chemicals out of Jacksonville. Tank work (chemical more often than food grade) tends to pay better than van, flat, and reefer and usually gets drivers home every week or two, if not more often. Could be worth a look.
