Thanks to everyone for helping with my question. The manual I am using is from 1997 and was given to me by a friend who went through school back then but is no longer driving. Does anyone know when the last update to the manual was made, if any? There does seem to be some info that is outdated and maybe some stuff I really don't need to be concerning myself with. I agree with turnanburn, some questions on the practice test are not worded very well and can be confusing.

    Hello. I'm new here.

I just finished my first attempt at the CDL practice test (general knowledge) on this site. Great resource. I was happy to see it up there.

I came across three questions where either I am wrong or the test is wrong, and I want to know which...

IF YOU FIND THAT YOU ARE BEING TAILGATED, YOU SHOULD...
    A. Quickly change langes to avoid an accident.
    B. Flash your brake lights to warn the tailgater.
    C. Decrease the distance between you and the tailgater.
    D. Increase the distance between you and the tailgater. (correct answer on website)
I was looking for the option to increase my following distance in front of me, but not there. The website says that D (increase the distance between you and tailgater) is correct. That's not right. Right?

    STAB BRAKING:
    A. Should never be used. (correct answer on website)
    B. Involves locking the wheels.
    C. Involves steady pressure on the brake pedal.
    D. Should only be used on slick roads.
I see that this question has already been discussed in this thread above, but it still reflects the incorrect answer according to the state CDL manual (A. Should never be used).

YOU SHOULD USE YOUR MIRRORS TO CHECK:
    A. Traffic gaps before you merge. (correct answer on website)
    B. The condition of the tires and cargo.
    C. Where the rear of your vehicle is while you make turns.
    D. All of the above.
I selected D, but the website says that the correct answer is only A (Traffic gaps before you merge). I know the state CDL manual talks about using mirrors to routinely check condition of tires and cargo, as well as monitoring the rear of the vehicle during turns. Am I misunderstanding?

Thank you for the help. :biggrin_25519:

The stab braking question was supposed to be fixed last week, I'll check on Tuesday to find out why it's still showing up.

Thank you Admin. What do you (or anyone) think about the other two questions in my post (aside from the one about stab braking)?

There doesn't seem to be a correct answer/option to the first one about tailgating. I'm pretty sure it is not D, as the practice test indicates. Perhaps option D is supposed to say "increase the following distance in front of you".

Regarding the 3rd question, my AZDOT CDL manual clearly discusses using side mirrors in all 3 of those situations (lane changes, checking cargo and tires while driving, and watching the rear end during turns). The practice test says that A is the only correct answer.

    Thank you much!
