The money? I made $28,000 my first year with Schneider. That was in 2002. Horror stories? I don't have any. I make double what I made my first year, ten years later and get home every weekend for three nights. I know people supporting families of 4 off of $30,000 or less. For my unique situation, as in having no kids trucking treats me very nicely. My fixed bills...mortgage, car payment, utilities, satellite tv, etc run me $14,000 a year. So yea, you can get rich trucking.
I live in Dallas and either do a round trip to Jersey, Chicago, or LA with a few local accounts I can help on if I get home early. But really I like the open road between Texas and California but miles are miles.
Is anybody REALLY happy?

If I get into trucking I'll only have a 10 to 15 years max to hone my skills, not enough time to be the 'best' but I'll settle for being "darn good (and still healthy)". -

Im happy. I drive a good truck for a good company and I get good miles and good wages. I get to go to places that people have to pay to go to. I've made real good freinds out here, ate real good food I never knew existed, etc etc. Trucking can be good to you if you're good to it. Hell, today I found a 1968 Chevy pick up, I've always wanted one, and found it for a good price. Another plus to being out here. I love my job. I look forward to my day. Lots of beautiful women to look at.it's of scenery and the money isn't bad either.

A team husband and wife.
If you want to make the big bucks, plan on not seeing each other very much except for when you are switching driving positions.
Personally, if I had a wife in the truck, she would have to be a passenger only.
Or I would.
Living in a little box with another person is hard enough. It would be even more difficult if it were my wife that I could never have enough 'personal' time with.tnt440 and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
