If you are a non smoker-what is the chance of getting a company truck that has not been contaminated with the oder? Is this a common request? Any tricks to getting the smell out? Thanks.

Alot of heavy cleaning. OUST spray, Febreze, cleaners with orange in them. You basically have to wipe the entire truck and floor down. The mattress is going to smell like smoke unless it is new and put in after the cleaning. The curtains have to unfolded and wiped down.

I have used some of the bleach cleaners. I am allergic to cigarettes so it is a chore to change trucks.

I used to drive a relay truck daily that the night guy smoked heavily in it.
Every morning, sprayed seats and bunk with febreze and oust. Kept windows open fresh air in it.

At night, my wife could smell the cigarettes on me as I entered the room.

    Derailed Thanks this.

Good luck getting a truck that hasn't been smoked in. Roadmedic's tips are about the best you can do, maybe even some scented candles (for when you're parked) to help get the stink out. Good luck.

On an aside, I do feel bad for you guys, because I am a smoker, and I smoke cigars, so my truck(s) tend to be very funky!

Roadmedic --Thanks for the tip. I was afraid that a nonsmoked in truck would be to much to ask for. I guess you take the bad with the good. Hey Wallbanger thanks for the heads up about the cigar funk in case I ever get one of your old used up trucks.

Put a container of activated charcoal in the truck to absorb the odors, it works great and then you don't have the added chemicals of air fresheners.

AFTER you get hired....go to your doctor... have him/her write a notice to your employer that you are allergic to not only the smoke...but the residue.... and tell them you either want a new truck...or one that has been sanitized professionally. I know from experience that companies will do this....I made about 1/2 the drivers at my old company mad at me....the other 1/2 patted me on the back and said "I wish I had the guts to do something like that...." (Just their way of saying Thanks, Sucker!) If they won't comply, sue them. Because of the new 2nd hand smoke laws.....they cannot make you work in that environment..... If they fire you....sue them. We should not have to sit in or breathe the crap that these inconsiderate butt-heads(pun intended) produce. It's not their RIGHT to FORCE the rest of us to live with their weakness.

If that seems too harsh......call Prime...go see them....pick out a brand new truck....make money. Real easy. Tell them the guy in truck #000000 sent you.... :biggrin_25520:

you can try contacting a auto body shop to see if you can use an air ionizer machine this will purify the air and remove the smoke smell. Other than that just a good cleaning.

I was actually surprised to see how many drivers are smokers. I too hope to find a non smoked in truck. Probably a better chance of winning the lottery. When I went to my truck driving school, I was the only non-smoker there. The rest were chain smokers. I heard a few say they go through more than two packs a day. I wondered if it was required that I take up smoking in order to be a truck driver...
Anyways, just my .02 Your mileage may vary....
