Ok, I'm going to school now in Ohio (TDDS Institute, Lake Milton), starting week 3 of 4 in the classroom this Monday.

Today I finished up all the exams at the BMV (incl. D/T, Tankers and Hazmat), and have my CDL permit.
After the classroom, there are 6 weeks of backing / parking / driving, then the driving test.

Scott Shy (Maverick recruiter) visited us this past week.

I've been looking into companies for almost a year.
Maverick seems to have a lot of what I'm looking for in a company - and I'm really impressed by their commitment to safety and service.

I'm interested in working in the TCD - but I'm wondering what happens when you head for home with a load?
I don't have any place to park a tractor/trailer... and I don't like the idea of leaving it sitting any place that isn't secure!?
And... t's a reefer unit - what if it stops working with product in the back while I'm at home sleeping? I think there's a drop yard in the area - about 30 miles - but it'd suck if I had to go check on it every day?!

What parts of the country does the TCD run?
I know it's supposed to be 48 states - East of the Rockies and maybe Canada - but where have you been?
Personally, I want to run everywhere!

How many miles are you getting in the division?

How are the EPU's - are they reliable - how well do they do the job?

How does the collision safety system work?
If you're on cruise traveling down the interstate and someone pulls in front of you (1 car length off your bumper) how does that work?!
It seems that as a gap is created, another car will fill it and you'll be slowing down continuously?

What's the biggest hassle about working with a reefer unit (on a regular / daily basis)?

Being able to haul either dry or refrigerated goods seems it woud be more versatile than just dry van.
What's the average % between dry / refrigerated?

What % of the loads are drop / hook, no-touch?

I'm sure I'll have more questions... but thanks in advance for any information / advice you can share!

Well, I am not in TCD, but I can answer this part of your question.
The OnGuard System is well,,, both a nice thing to have AND a pain in the butt sometimes.
It sounds as you already can understand that part that can potentially be a pain- when someone pulls in front of you- especially if they slow down after pulling in front of you. However, you can "override" the system simply by using your accelerator pedal. Just keep an eye on any vehicle that appears as though it may move in front of you (which you should be paying attention anyways) and if it does pull in front of you real close, the OnGuard will slow the truck down automatically and try to space you out from it. But if that car is also planning to move over say one more lane, and does not stay in front of you but for say 10 seconds or so and then gets off on an exit ramp and you see the situation developing, you can accelerate and begin to regain your momentum as the car is preparing to leave the lane in front of you.... I don't know if this is a good example or not- or if it is understandable. SImply put, your trainer will teach you how to work with the OnGuard system. Just know that you can override it. Also know that many drivers complain about how out of nowhere their OnGuard for no reason will hit the Jake and "throw 'em thru the windshield." This can happen- and your guess is as good as mine as to what/why. Mine "sees ghosts" sometimes, or on a really sunny evening when the shadows start getting long- driving under an underpass, just as my truck sees the shadow of the underpass as I pass under it, same thing, it will hit the jake (brakes). The first few times this happened it freaked the @#@# out of me, but after awhile, this too, you will become used to, predict it, and be able to keep it from happening by overriding it simply by remembering to keep your foot on/near the pedal. Your trainer will be the biggest help here, and having a little time behind the wheel with the system. Don't worry about it, its just a nice safety feature that you will grow to appreciate.
