Mercer drivers for some reason never say much but the few that do there numbers don't impress me at all I had a long talk with two this weekend one told me a stepdeck use to pay $.50 or more a mile over a flatbed but now pays the same also said he use to get $50.00 for using his ramps and no longer pays that so he pulls a flatbed now and sold the step with the flatbed he finds more freight and is home 3 weekends a month he lives in VA
The one thing I didn't like is they both said 90% of the loads must be trapped but they really didn't talk bad about them besides they have your back right after they cover there's first one guy has been there 13 years and had been in a crash where someone was killed he said they bent over backwards to get him back on the road.....

I spoke with Mercer again today. Im not liking that I can't book my week ahead of time. Meaning I can be bumped by a driver that didnt make any effort ahead of time to find a load simply because he unloaded first. Now my plans are shot.
nofilter Thanks this. -
I like survival of the fittest better.
whoopNride Thanks this. -
I was thinking hard about mercer but I got a problem my truck has a APU mounted on the back wall ( condenser ) and my APU sits on the frame rail or is attached to it I mean so a headache rack makes it near impossible to install on my truck
Any ideas -
dude, who are you talking too, i stay booked a week ahead. while they have first in first out you can still book ahead.
but with me grossing 200,000 my first year on 104,000 miles and well on the way to that again, i will stick with there system.
i think you totally are misunderstanding how it works, if you book a load and are dispatched on it you cant be bumped from it.
the bottom line is making money. but we do book loads ahead of time, but you dont simply see a load on the board and grab it, you are lined up in a order, say you match yourself to a load and come up number 10 the other nine ahead of you will be called and asked if they want the load at that time, if the other nine matched to it say no its yours.
but look at it this way, if you are number 1, number 10 cant beat you to it simply because he was stopped looking at the load board and you were driving.
if you want the willd wild west , go to landstar and use their system.
and bayou, i find no where near the tarp percentage those guys quoted you. if i dont want to tarp, i dont take the load. remember here at mercer , you pick your own loads, you have final say in your loads, you set your own parameters on rate per mile, tarp or no tarp, length of deadhead, etc. if ya get shot in the foot one of two things have occured, you did it to yourself and ya dont know how to run your own truck.
me, i will keep my 2.00 a mile avg loaded and empty. but i know how to keep that avg also.fivestar, nofilter, spectacle13 and 1 other person Thank this. -
i will also measure how much room between my rack and front of trailer.
it s not a big a problem as you think.horsecrazychic22 Thanks this. -
I like what I'm reading about Mercer. Do they lease on RGNs or double drop RGNs? Is there any advantage to low profile step decks with 33 - 34 inch deck heights? I have an RGN/DD and am thinking of buying a second one or a lo pro SD with ramps. Admiral Merchants also looks very good to me or possibly getting my own authority.

Skateboard.
Im not arguing when I ask whats the point of booking ahead of time? Its not yours to have unless your next in line. You can just check while your getting unloaded. You can't really plan a route for sure. You only assume .
Set me straight if im wrong.
And I spoke with Mike and Chrisnofilter Thanks this.
