My instructor and I were in the west side of the Chicagoland area when I had to get over into the far right lane. I looked twice and the way was clear for a good ways back. The flatbedder behind us didnt like us moving in front of him. He sped up and passed us on the left and blared his airhorn while showing us his IQ number. He got in the lane in front of us and locked up his trailer brakes enveloping us in a clooud of acrid smoke from the burning rubber. I was able to slow down enough before hand to avaoid hitting him in the back end of his trailer.

Ive called in vehicles for that. If you have a good description and a plate the usually will pull the offending vehicle over. Had a pickup with teenagers in it pull that stunt on me in Ohio because they didnt like riding behind me up hill. So when they had the oppurtunity to pass they did so then slammed on the beakes in front of me. I had a load of steel plates on that shifted forward 6" after I got on my brakes hard. I called them in and they were promptly met by a trooper coming the opposite way who did a uturn and pulled them over. I gladly stopped to sign the complaint and then show the teens what could have been in my truck with me because of their stunt if I had not cross chained the front if those plates.

    Won't be the last time...

    - Same deal with a De Bour idiot in Atlanta... long story.
    - Been passed on the shoulder by a couple of 18-wheelers in the last month or so.
    - Got road raged by a Tennessee state cop a couple of weeks ago (can ya believe that one!)

I agree. Drove Chicagoland for 7 yrs local. That happens all the time and 90% of the time the police won't do anything about. If your going to Chicago, get used to it....

Had a western express almost take the nose of my truck off a couple days ago, as he was trying to get out of the way of a coal bucket trying to push him along going down 40.

i really wonder what the other side of the story is

i get pissed off when a truck stays in the center lane, knowing there are only two lanes of travel, him and another 62 mph truck want to hold hands down the hiway, backing up traffic, five and ten miles, not knowing or not caring about anyone else but themselves

i wouldnt lock up my brakes, i pay for these tires, but i understand the frustration

white and black signs are the law

whether 70mph or slower traffic keep right

why obey one and not the other?

The OP stated he had plenty of room to come over... needed the far right lane. Nothing excuses the actions of the other driver, and so what if the OP was going slower? It's on the faster driver to adjust for changing conditions - not to loose his cool and attempt to cause an accident.
