I tell you what I do, technically it is not 100% legal but it looks good on the logs and my paycheck.
Arrive at shipper/receiver, immediately change status on Elogs to On Duty Not Driving/Arrive for 5 minutes as I slow roll to the gate. Sometimes I park on the street for the 5 minutes and change to Off Duty for the rest of the time I am there until (un)loaded then give up another 5 minutes On Duty Not Driving before hitting the road.
If I'm driving through midnite, my first stop after midnight, I will give up 5 minutes On Duty Not Driving/Safety Check as I send in the macros detailing my yesterday's hours and daily vehicle(s) inspection reports. Usually want to show a cumulative minimum total of 30 minutes on Line 4 during the 24 hour period ending of any work day.
