    But there are 3 trucks for every load here in Bikini. Rates are low, and getting lower.

    not true they still try to keep rates low even with a 40:1 ratio its up to the drivers to hold firm on their rates.

    I've thought about tossing a 40' reefer container on my step and running some produce, seen it done before, but not sure how well it works out for guys.

    You would have to work out a deal with the shipper / receiver before booking the load,have everyone on the same page before a problem arises due to deck height. I doubt if many packing houses / warehouses would accomodate your equipment, unless trucks were real hard to get.
