So, I read on this fourm that it was advisable to get my CDL A permit before going to school so I wouldn't have to cram. (Think that was Ironponys advice.) So I went out got the book studied and passed my test! I now have my CDL A Permit in the state of Ohio. My question is do I have to retake all those test once I get down to springfield and get a MO permit or how does this work. I asked my recruiter if Id have to retake the driving test in Ohio and she said no I'd get a MO license and it would transfer over to Ohio after I finished the skills. But i forgot to ask her if I would have to retake the whole 3 permit test. Also I'd like to ask if anyone could post a link the most detailed thread here that depicts school I really want to know what is going to be like in detail. Like from the hotel rooms to the physical, what are the days like and schedules ect I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere but I'm having a hard time finding the details I want. Thanks starting next Tuesday!

I might be missing something as I am in IL...but here we have three tests. Written, Prep, and Road. You passed all? That means you have a CDL-A License...not permit. Again, I might be misunderstanding you.

Yes, it is advisable to get your permit (pass the written, here in IL) prior to going. Prime told me that on the phone when I called.

As far as the days - I have been reading for 2 days straight and my understanding is a lot of paperwork...some class and simulator time...some time on the trucks...then testing.

No I deff just have my permit. By 3 test I mean I had to pass 3 test to get my permit. General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Combination test. I have never been behind the wheel of a semi so I know I don't have my license :)

As long as Missouri accepts the permit from your state, and AFAIK Ohio is not a problem, all you will need to do at Prime is pass the three-part road test after your 75/100/whatever the heck it is now hours with your instructor. While everyone else is taking their permit test they will have something else for you to do.

Well I've never drove a truck before was hoping I'd get extra time on the simulator.. Hell I have never even drove a manual transmission so nervous as hell about grinding gears and what not.. Hoping for a great trainer and lots of free time on the simulator and of course studying my pre-trip inspections.. watching tons of videos of backing up and it looks hard!! Oh well sure I can get the hang of it although it does look challenging..

To be honest it's I've heard it's easier just learn on a truck you'll get the hang of it, it will all come to you just show them your learning and they'll be patient backing can be hard but remember your turning is backward to go right u have to turn left to go left you have to turn right

You should call the drivers license office in your home county to make sure, but I believe all you have to do is show up with acceptable proof of your residence to get your license transferred in Ohio. Find out what "acceptable" is up front too! That being said, the only CDL test that is usually required (outside of weird places like IL and MA) is the hazmat endorsement test. Generally you're required to retake that any time you transfer or renew your license.

Simulator... it's just there to give you a little up front experience and expose you to some situations that can't really be done in a truck - so it's easier to deal with once you get on a truck. Learning to drive a class 8 CMV, shifting and backing is done in the truck.

PSD orientation is mostly done at the Campus Inn - where you'll be staying. It was a Howard Johnson's before Prime acquired it, and is generally acceptable to stay at. You'll have a room mate (it's free, don't complain) - there's a TV, and a fridge. Breakfast and lunch is at the Campus Inn, but you'll have to come over to the Millenium building for supper. I can't really comment on PSD course contents - never went to it, and it changes. Make sure you're on time (that's 5 minutes early) everywhere, don't be a shlub. The entire period you're here is an extended job interview in everything you do. If you survive the process, you'll be on an instructor's truck by the weekend.

    Good luck!

You skipped a step in there. It was known as the Bass Country Inn between being a HoJo's and Prime buying it, and it's supposedly haunted.
