If you don't already have a CDL, then yes the course is done in Marshfield. You get a CDL permit from your state of residence, train with it in Marshfield, take the test up there and receive a Wisconsin CDL, then return to your home state and get it transferred.

Make sure you know you're home states policy on CDL transfers from other states. Massachusetts for example requires two years of full-time employment before an outside license can be converted. I literally moved in with some friends in another state to work for this company. Worth it.

Their loss- maybe in two years they'll start getting my tax dollars if I move back:biggrin_2559:

Screw MA. Keep your tax dollars from there. I'm moving in the next 6 months away from that state if all goes well.

Born and raised- love the state, hate the politics. I want my guns, fireworks, and happy hours. Ironically none of which are allowed on or near company property xD

As for the freight I guess I've been lucky lately. Reefer is still solid and I'll keep my fingers crossed we keep doing well

Dallas does not have a CDL school (RDTC). It is a new terminal and they only do orientation for new CDL holders and experience drivers there. RDTC is only Marshfield., WI which is the home office. The other terminals are Ellenwood, GA (south side of Atlanta), Appleton, WI, Gary, IN and Phoenix, AZ. Springfield, MA and Bensalem, PA (SE side of Philly) are just drop lots. Chances are if you are on Long Island you would go to Gary, IN if you already had your CDL.

Kim in recruiting was quick to bring that up as well as the similar all-or-nothing rule Florida has. She laid out all the hoops I would have to jump through before she started selling me on RDTC. Now that's honest work.

I've had a good experience working with Kim also, she knows her stuff.
Thanks for bringing up the original question...it made me double-check the rules for MN. I asked a longtime trucker friend of mine what you do if your home state makes you wait 2 years, he said you just drive with the WI CDL in the meantime.

Minnesota is fine, I transfered back to mn the day after i got home. They didn't even question it, but the key is just saying transfering residency to mn. Don't go into long explanation of what you did. than they will start questioning it.

    Bayle and technoroom Thank this.

Thanks for that. I plan on moving to MN in the near future. Been planning to for years but finally looking like it will happen.

Already live in MN and have MN class D but testing in Marshfield will yield WI CDL -- so will have to xfer that to MN. Apparently they make you retake the gen knowledge written test and pay something like $40, but no road retest.
