And as far as the "electronic signature" I'm well aware of how to place a digitized signature on any document or image. The fact that MOST officers will accept it is irrelevant, there are some that do not, and that is just fine with me because they are just enforcing the rule the way it was written. It took quite some time before the log could even be filled in on a computer and printed, lacking only the signature. Read how the reg is written and it says, basically, the form must be completed in the drivers handwriting. It took years for them to allow us to get to this point, and it won't be long before it is a moot point, as EOBRs will be a reality in a few years, whether or not any of us agree with that or not. I've had DOT officers tell me they didn't give a flip whether placards were on tarps, on the freight, on mud flaps, etc, as long as the placards were there and visible. But that's not the law, and Mercer has it's share of tickets to show for it. Remember "officers discretion" determines whether you get cited or not, and generally most of that depends on your attitude and appearance. Again, just because the majority of drivers have not had an issue with not having copies of their logs, or not presenting an original signature, it does not mean they are compliant with the regulations. -
