Well Murphy found a way to get back at me. I wanted to be home by Thursday afternoon so my lovely bride and I could start our marriage retreat a day early. But, NOOOOOO!
After delivering in SC Monday morning I waited till about 1300 for a call from backhaul then called them to nake sure I was on the board. No answer so I left a message. About 1500 I get a call with broker info. Was to pick up in SC Tuesday morning going to Houston for Thursday morning. From there I would try for a Pol-Tex load going to Henderson I could pass thru the house with.
I call the broker and was told the shipper was Owens Corning. At this point I'm thinking this is not good because the trailer I have is leaking water. Plus it was wood panelling that has numerous holes and has splinters sticking out in various places. I keep listening to the info until I hear the requirments for the trailer and I stop the person giving me the information and tell them I know the trailer will be rejected. Told them I did not want to waste anyone's time and to take me off the load.
A few minutes later I get a call from someone higher up the food chain at the broker to confirm the trailer condition. They thank me for being up front and said he would contact my company. I had already called backhaul and left a message.
A few more minutes pass and backhaul calls and says it's probably to late to get something else, but they would keep looking and if they didn't call before 1700 they would call tomorrow as soon as they found something. Was told they were having a hard time finding loads going to DFW (as I requested so I could get PM on truck while on home time).
At 0900 Tuesday get a call asking if I could be in Waco by 1700 Wednesday. Depending on how long it took to load I might be able to squeak it in on time. However I hate running that tight and said I could be there by 2200 if receiver was agreeable. He said would check and call back asap if they ok'ed it.
Got no call till 1100 with broker info for a different load. Picked up in Lyons,GA today (wed) going to Ft Worth for 0100 Friday. Murphy won this round. But I still get the weekend as origonaly planned.
Just FYI, I have a great wife. While disappointed, as I am too, she understands and never says anything discouraging when Murphy wins.
Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

BTW, I'll be in GP tomorrow afternoon waiting to make delivery. Will probably take 4wheeler to get some grub about 1600 so I can take a nap before delivery. If anyone else is going to be there and wants to go let me know.

Well, no need answering my last Post now. I completed an interesting adventure but finally found the place. Dock was a little blind side deal but not bad. Unload was done in about an hour and a half so not bad. My Backhaul load picks up in Cincinnati and goes to Dallas. Not bad. Hope to get south before anymore weather moves in. I enjoyed about four days off at home and may just run back by on the way down. Good miles and some home time to boot.
jdrentzjr Thanks this.
