first time i had this prob, found a crowbar ..but it didn't help
-
sounds crazy but is the trailer on level ground?
Tonythetruckerdude and falcon241073 Thank this. -
bingo! some noob might find this helpful, still see it now and then...
took years (can happen anywhere anytime tho) before i first ran across the prob for the first time and had no clue
moving forward ~ 10 ft usually fixes it
prob depends how loaded too
-
Is it a brand new trailer? Our new Hyundai's do that when loading water. Their ultra lightweight and flimsy. Re position the truck 30 times you might get it to latch. I use a crow bar under the door to lift it and it works like a charm.

pry bar, level ground and a prayer has worked for me, not always in that order.
