at a shop in new caney, tx i actually heard a guy telling everyone there that pepsi and coke used ground up aborted babies to make their drinks taste better.

the scary part is he is a trucker, and is loose on the highways and not under psychiatric care.

Thanks for reminding me to appreciate my dispatching job off the highways where I'll never have the pleasure of meeting one such individual . . . and for the chuckle it gave me that you felt the need to share lol ... was it a Mercer guy? Be safe!

I think I met him at the "Counter of Knowledge", at TA Baytown, the other week. He got really upset, when I would not agree with him and threatened me, as he stormed out.

At least he wasn't one of the Vietnam snipers i run into all the time at the counter. They all seem to have become truckers after the war...... granted 95% of them were not even 10yrs old yet when it was going on.

I will say we moved a truck to Mercer and so far couldn't be happier. Truck has been there for a month longest the truck has deadheaded will actually be tomorrow with a whopping 38 miles then Tuesday it deadheads 5 miles. Truck is averaging over $2 a mile. Heaviest load has been 35,000lbs. I don't get forced or even persuaded into or out of a load. I set my preferences and monitor the load board my LC also looks out for loads in my preferences. I get a call for the load if the LC calls I say yes, no or I will look at it. I get the answer of ok and that's it. I can get info on how many loads have came out of the area in the past week and how many trucks are headed there too. I don't run west coast I run Midwest and southeast. So I will say I can't complain of mercer. I do have a friend at LS that has a few trucks there and he said its going down hill over there. I don't personally know as we are lease to FedEx and mercer. Only other company I've been leased to in the past 10 years is TSH and I'm not even going there

The short hauls can make more money than the long hauls ;)

Yes short hauls longest run so far is 522 miles. I look at a daily average for loads. I don't get googlie eyed over a big number at the gross pay. The truck loads and unloads every day. I factor in a few other things when it comes to selecting loads too. I try to stay east of the Mississippi and try to draw a line no further northeast than Ohio and Virginia. I'm glad the guys do it to save loads for me but I never understand why you would go west with a load that pays the same or less and have to deadhead or sit a lot for another load. The truck is making probably more money every week (yes its alittle more work) than those guys and the truck is in TN every weekend not out weeks at a time.

To be profitable you have to look at all aspects of a load and factor them in. I will take a load that pays a little less if it gets into a good area, weighs significantly less and is easy to load. I research loads before I except them also. I look at both ends. I might be interested in a load that my LC calls about but I tell the LC I will look at it and let them know. I don't jump on it unless I know already.

Um since someone peed in your Cheerios its longer than 8 minutes and it doesn't take but 3 minutes to research it. I guess some people are just more competent than others.
