The common wisdom in some circles is that the owner-operator model is dying. There's some reason for that conclusion. Major rounds of emission technology have added tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of new trucks. After years of loose credit ended in a recession, tight credit suddenly made the purchase of even a cheap used truck impossible for many buyers. Some owner-operators, fed up with an expanding regulatory maze, simply bailed out prematurely.

[IMG] The owner-operator population has grown since the recession.

There will always be a drive to be self employed. I have heard that the end of the O/O has been coming for over 30 years. It hasn't happened yet. We have adapted to every change the gloom and doomers has said will destroy us. Like the ####roach, we evolve to overcome new obstacles.

We used to truck together 2 to 4 of us for 30 days at a time. COE Internationals GMCs KW Pete i had a 75 ford with a 318. Rolled up the windows to keep the west TX heat out! Temp gauge never droped below 110 at night. We slept good though when we needed to.
