I hope it keeps going good for you, but you're the exception. Last year I was out 325 days, many times I was out 6 weeks at a time before seeing home, and still turned less than 120k. This year I haven't seen a 10k month...in fact I've had 2 in the mid 8k's. And until this week I've been pretty low key and trying to go with the flow more times than not...but I've had enough of struggling...it took my income tax return to get us current on our bills, but only took 2.5 months of poor production to get us behind again, and it's only May...it's a long time until tax time so I've got to see an improvement, and being the 'easy going, less annoying' snackbar isn't going to get that done...it's time for me to go back to the 'toe stomping' snackbar.

Bowlwinkle, I have had much the same experience as you,I don't turn down loads no matter how unproductive they are but I am always early for delivery whether or not it says "no early delivery" (I'm here to make money not babysit loads) usually no issues with early delivery unless it's a grocery warehouse.
This will be my 3rd year here 1st full year was 124930 2nd year 127475 this year I'm behind 2848 for the year 39352 thru Apr 30th but I had truck issues/truck swap that ate up almost 7 days as well as a 4 day wait for service before a 5 day vacation in April, but for actual days available for dispatch I am ahead of last year,my goal is/has been 130k a year here.
Having spoke with my fair share of drivers I tend to hear more complaints than happy campers.
I try to stay positive as much as possible but at times the way Crete does things, well it's a challenge.
I sympathize with SS as I had the pleasure to meet him last month at Kelloggs in SW Atlanta, very professional, soft spoken, well mannered person (not what I was expecting)
Much of what SS posts here I have no doubt is how it happens,I can't explain the differences we all have here other than who we are dealing with on a daily basis, I have the same AM as 48pac and will be losing her on the 20th,hopefully her replacement keeps things rolling smoothly.
On a side note delivered to Wally World in Ochelata OK a few days ago and they are moving out,we lost the contract to cr england and are supposed to be out by June 15th.
As I voiced my opinion to SS about the state of Crete I personally think there is going to be a sale of Crete coming soon, time will tell but there is much going on that has flags a waving. -
Actually, this forum is my alter ego. Another driver I spoke to who follows this thread said that I look younger than I sound here. We're not the only people who feel that things may be changing here. I have spoken to quite a few that are getting the same vibe.
As far as turning down loads, it's not that I say 'no' to a lot of them, it's that I ask for a more productive one 1st. We all get our share of the short stuff, I just would like to see my share of the good ones too. Some months I do, others I don't...hence this whole years monthly average is under 9k
When I was in Lincoln the other day, there was a large amount of roll door Crete reefer trailers in the vacant lot. I wonder if those were the trailers from Oklahoma, or it's just trade time for N. Platte(unless we're losing that one too). I also overheard a driver talking to a guard in W.Jefferson about our Kelloggs. I only heard the tail end as I was checking out, but the gist of what I heard was something like "we'll end up getting it back, we always do, Kelloggs will realize they can't handle the volume and on time service that they require. Give it 6 months"...I can only guess that we lost a chunk of our Kelloggs, or they're doing something along the lines of what GM did with the dedicated accounts they had.Last edited: May 12, 2013

nothing like your non English speaking neighbor at the ol truck stop initiating a parked re-gen at 0230 to bring out the SSB in me.
sorry SSB but I couldn't resist
haha I guess I skeered him off. Once the re-gen was complete he left -
Happy Mothers Day to all our ladies out there!

Well, I got out of MO. They gave me a Joplin to Cleburne, TX. I delivered it Sunday, then off to Waxahachie to pickup a fiberglass load for Houston that delivers Monday morning. All in all, a decent mileage weekend, even if it took 2 loads and an attitude. I checked my DAT app to see what freight is available(not that Crete gets their loads there, but when there is abundant freight on there, then there is a better chance that Crete will have ample loads moving out once I'm empty.) DAT shows tons of freight going to the four corners of the US and beyond. Plus, to my surprise, Waxahachie was running way ahead of schedule, they were needing our empty trailers for loads that were scheduled for 8am tomorrow.

I stumbled across a non driver Crete insider last week by total coincidence and heard about all of the changes going on and thought I'd check out the thread. Good to see you are all keeping it alive.
Wow, I was stunned by the mass VP exodus (and others, voluntary or not) and terminal closings, not to mention the loss of Bartlesville. Very disappointing to hear that all the good people that I worked with out of Spartanburg are now out, although I hear my old Fleet Manager is still on board but being bounced around the country filling in where needed. If anyone is going through the KC terminal hunt down Chris in the office and tell him that ET says HI!
So many changes with more to come, I assume.
And no more zone dispatching? Next thing you're going to tell me is that SS is the new CEO!
I also heard that there was a company wide notice that freight was expected to be very light for the next couple of weeks due to slow bookings. Hopefully most of you will keep moving.
All that sitting and waiting is the one thing I certainly do not miss about the fine lifestyle of being an OTR driver.
Instead, now I'm trying to get my product delivered around the country (flatbed loads). And let me tell you this, if you think the trucking companies make life difficult for the truck driver, just try booking loads with scum of the earth brokers. Those boys have the art of ripping off the drivers perfected. If only the rates I paid actually went to the driver. Or if I could actually book a load for the rate the driver ends up taking.
It's late and I'm short on time, but will make an attempt give a quick update someday.
Drive safe every one. I get the itch to drive across the county from time to time, but find it's so much faster in an airplane and I don't have to worry about those pesky logbooks. -
Kinda' typical of things here...as a former employee, you hear more about what is going on than we do...the only word about freight we hear is when op's uses those immortal words...'sit tight, we are short on freight'.
As for me ever becoming a CEO here...if you hear that, you may want to pack a couple extra parkas and a steel reinforced umbrella...because Hades will be frozen over, and Porky Pig will be trolling the friendly skies with the new set of wings that sprouted out of his butt. I think it was a line in a Harrison Ford movie that sums up my goal here. "I just want to get out of this in one piece with my *bleep* still attached"
As for the mass exodus of VP's...you know the old saying about rats leaving the sinking ship!!! Maybe they know something that they aren't telling us.
Maybe your boss should do things like Poly Trucking did...ship the product by his own private fleet....I can see it now "ET Transportation"Last edited: May 13, 2013

WARNING**This is purely a venting moment!**
OK, So I'm up in Romeoville picking up a load that has no appt. time on it. Last time I did this I was burned so I should have known better. However this time I quickly got a squawk com telling me an appt. time I could barely make. Not a real big problem just means I have to get up at 0430 to make but do-able for sure. I also get a message the trlr needs a T1 so I swing back by Indy term and get the look-see taken care of and hit the sack. Get up at 0400 eat my cereal with some Ocean Spray Craisins (blueberry flavored cranberries) and head towards Cincy area for delivery. Make it there with 30 minutes till my appt. time. I went in to check with the rec. dept. and it turns out I am 24 hours and 30 minutes ahead of time. So I have been sitting for the last 2 hours waiting on OPs to get things sorted out. I was in a VERY foul mood until I splurged and got a Micky D's sausage and egg McMuffin. The topper is I was just sent a pre-plan for a short 200 miles same day runHello right hand meet left hand.
OK that's about as nasty as I get but to say I'm frustrated is an understatement.

Question for fellow Cretens...
Have you ever left a voice mail or asked someone at your terminal to call you back? Have you ever gotten a call back?....ever?
Left message number 12 or so at 0815 this morning with a personal guarantee to get someone to call me back when they were out of the meeting. Never have received a single call back to date. I did get a message on the qualcom once that they hadn't forgotten me and they would update me the next day...nothing.
