What is the longest you have been deadheaded for an empty trailer move?

    Just curious.

Maybe 20 - 30 miles max if just transfering an empty trailer from one shipper to another or dropping one off at a shop for repair but have been sent hundreds of miles bobtail many times when needing an empty to load. USA use to pay $50 for each trailer move but I havent done any in a couple years so that might have changed. As far as just picking up an empty to load, they will just add the miles in on your load.

It is not uncommon to pull an empty trailer very long distances in the liquid food tanker industry. That is why you may see some tanker companies pay less for empty miles. With liquid food tankers a wash out may only be valid for 24-48 hours so they want you to wash out as close to the shipper as possible. I use to run dedicated loaded from Bradenton, FL to Los Angeles, CA then empty back to Lake Wales, FL to be washed out.

The longest I even went empty was from Poland, ME to Fresno, CA. to wash out and then to Santa Rosa, CA to load. Luckily the company I work for then paid the same empty and loaded.

I was in Los Angeles about a week ago and the company sent me to get washed out at Qualawash, a tanker wash company in LA. I haul dry van but needed a wash out after hauling a load of hay. I dont see why you needed to deadhead 2500 miles back to FL for a wash when tanker wash companies are all over the place.
