    Absolutely nothing. Just the government pigs feel they need to control your every move so they make new laws every few years to keep you on your toes. Mark my word in 6 or 7 years there will be yet another hours of service change.

    Notice they never miss a beat to impose new baby sitting rules on us BUT never the address the issue that we are exempt from all labor laws including overtime.

    I am wondering who exactly makes these constant new laws? The DOT? congress? And based on what studies and facts? Have these pigs ever even driven a mile in a truck themselves to make such judgements on when a driver should sleep? I'd bet not.
    I agree there should be no HOS instead a recommended daily maximum drive limit of 14 or 15 hours. Which drivers would be free to follow or not. Along with that there should be a 1- 800 number to the DOT for drivers to call and report an abusive dispatcher or other company official who is pressuring him/her to drive tired. If they say they have a "hot load" and you say you're too tired now and need rest there is not a #### thing they can do about it. If they fire you they would be liable for a major compensation penalty to the driver.

    It's not. This was just a giveaway to PATT, Public Citizen, the railroad lobby, and all those who want to reduce truck tonnage.

    In a word, the only thing wrong with it was that it was simple, straight forward and could easily be explained in layman's terms,,,,,,, IOW, no "Gray Area",,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Now you know why the Government HAD to change it!!!

    Studies have shown that two 34 hour breaks in a week is simply not enough rest.

    I would like to know how a 34 hour break has magically curative powers one time, but not another if it occurs within 168 hours.

    Looking at it objectively I see this move as an attempt to clearly differentiate actually taking a break from the typical waiting that is a part of this industry.

    I'm withholding my opinion until I get some firsthand data. I can see how this could possibly end up being beneficial to a lot of drivers. Conversely, I can see how this could be a nightmare for a lot of drivers as well.

    Not all regulations have been detrimental to this industry.

    Can someone explain to me how this will negatively affect Team Drivers ..Not trying to start an argument, We are just a wannabe H&W Team So I'm just curious...

    Personally, I don't like the way the HOS are set either...It would be better if I had driven for 6 hrs and got tired and she was rested up and she could drive for awhile till she got tired and I was rested again and so on .. another words I think we should be able to switch off back and forth at any time if one is tired or not feeling so great.. they could even make the stipulation that team drivers couldn't drive more than 11hrs in a 24hr period would even be ok but you should be able to drive those 11 in 24 at your discretion ...

    I'm not sure some of these folks making the rules have ever worked a grave yard shift...

    When I worked 11p-7a my sleeping pattern was much different than working a day shift job ..

    Example when I worked grave yard I typical got off work at 7a I went home ate and did whatever till about 11a then I would sleep till about 4p then I would be up till about 7p till then sleep again till about 10:15p then get ready and go to work ...

    but the reg working stiff - including myself nowadays, typically 8a-5p I go home eat and do whatever till about 10p and I go to bed and get up around 6a and get ready and go to work ..

    Very different sleep patterns for different work hrs and situations ... I guess the point is not all people or situation are the same and to try and make rules for when you have to sleep and have to be awake could be very difficult and inefficient and probably in some ways dangerous for the drivers and those around them ..

    I guess this is where a few drivers (bad apples) have made it very rough on those that now follow.


    I think there needs to be more flexibility in HOS...IMHO

    BUT where are they?

    You got to realise that we are in a different world when people don't want to put an effort into even eating together - look how the TS dives are crowded with truckers at dinner time.

    That's true complaining at a truckstop or forum isn't but what will?

    People are getting more and more wanting to be left alone in the sleeper.
