Will the shifting get easier with time?

ya it gets better. in trucking school i struggled like crazy. shifting was so hard and its crazy now when i look back at it. i agree the trainer is at fault. because like i feel like i was nervous because of my teacher more than anything. i had a hard time from pulling fifth wheel to unhooking a trailer. dont let him sweat it

 

Like anything, he will get better with practice.

 

As somebody who started a long time ago, I was a horrible shifter (MY trainer just kept shaking his head) I can say it WILL get better. Shifting a truck is a skill, like any skill it takes practice. The more you practice...the better you get. Though you're right, a screamer for a trainer doesn't help anything. Your husband might want to talk to the training coordinator about changing if it get really bad.

no, it doesn't get easier. todays transmissions are a POS compared to 10 years ago.

used to be they would slide out of gear like butter. and slide right in like melted butter. not anymore. most times you have to fight it.

but yeah. it's a time learned skill that does get easier with lots of time.

 

Short answer yes it will get better as you go along. Nothing to worry about.

Your husband cannot ecspect to learn shifting in one day.His trainer is at fault for yelling when he just started.Nobody can learn that way.Are there other trainers at this school that's more patient?There are videos on youtube and very informative.Your husband will learn to shift,it just takes time.Tell him to not give up and request another trainer.

 

Plenty of companies have automatic trucks for people like your husband so they can find more people to work for peanuts...

 

Tell him not to give up quite so quick.Plenty of you-tube videos.Perhaps he can request another trainer. He can learn the skill, it takes practice,practice and then practice some more.Just like learning to walk.Just do it. After several days it will reach a point where it becomes second nature. Perhaps he is trying too hard, relax, do not force it. I believe he can do it, we all did.
