I am quite annoyed with my new dm right now, so I don't have many nice things to say. I have never had a dm that didn't care about his drivers until this one. A couple of examples:
In the past 10 months, I did 3 repowers. In the last 2 weeks alone, I have done 5. I have had loads swapped, cancelled, repowered, etc...hell, I had 4 load assignments in 1 day!
Today was the icing on the cake. I repowered a guy in Gulfport, MS yesterday with a load due in Grand Prairie today. I had 3 hours left on my clock when I repowered him. I drove them off and took my 10. I started driving at 0130 this morning, took a nap on the way and arrived in Dallas at around 1300. When I was empty, I had 1:30 left on my clock and it was running. I called my dm, told him that I was out of hours, needed a break, and was tired. He said "no problem." not 10 minutes later, I get a qualcomm message and him calling my phone. They need me to run to Lancaster, pick up a load, and take it to Kroger in Keller by 1600. I told him that I would do my best, but that I most likely didn't have the hours to make it. He tells me to grab it anyways. When I grab the load, I called him back and told him that I couldn't do it because I didn't have the time left to do it (I was going to be about 15 minutes short.) He told me to log it as off duty driving...which is illegal. I took the load, but called safety to let them know what happened. I ended up just blowing my hours since that's better than falsifying my logs.
What I should have done is to put my foot down and flat out refuse to take it, but the bottom line is that my dm should have never put me in that position in the First place. Once he saw the load come across his board, he should've immediately called the planner and told him that I didn't have the hours, and couldn't run it...but he didn't. Instead, he wanted me to run illegally to get the load there knowing full well what would happen if I got into an accident or got pulled over. It shows an absolute lack of caring for the drivers, and shows me that, in his view, moving freight is more important than the safety and well being of his drivers. Needless to say, I am in the process of requesting a new dm.
Sorry for the rant, but that's the best update I can muster for now.augiedoggie41, Rick Brown and Jarhed1964 Thank this. -
Man o man that is running above and beyond what should be asked of any driver.
Yes I have pushed it a couple times but only ran under the radar once and got away with it but never again.
Will pm my dispatcher see if you can request him he is awesome, they frown on safety issues big time don't need to go bankrupt again because of a lawsuit!

take it from a former freymiller driver (5yrs)...next time call across the lot to safety...that's usually all it takes...augiedoggie41 and Rick Brown Thank this.

Here is the kicker. My former dm used to be a driver...but even above that, he is a former Sheriff Detective! Telling a driver to run illegally does not bode well to his tenure as a law enforcement detective. On top of that, being that he is a former driver, he should know how drivers want to be treated and what they expect. Anyways, I'm getting a new dm...and from the way things sounded, he might not be there much longer anyways.

I'm glad your getting a new DM you don't need that if you are tired nothing else matters.. Remember Bordentown fiasco? I ran to the port twice(Del Monte) dropped at the yard down from Petro in Bordentown. I took the other Del Monte load through PA sans the toll road
made it to the T/A in Bloomsburg,PA at 18ish got something to eat slept till 03:00 then drove to sapps clearfield took shower trying to figure out how the heck I was going to make it to the Wal Mart distribution in Tomah,WI by 05:00?! (Those that don't know 750 miles).
Well under the radar I went drove from Clearfield to Tomah by 03:30 grabbed an hour nap unloaded then went to Loves fixed drive tire went to a p/u 80 miles away took it another 60 miles to portage petro ate and slept my full ten!! then off again. When they couldn't track me they called and asked two questions where you at and are you going to make it? My response mnone of your business and yes they're response "Your the man,Thank you" I drive only when I can but I will never have a service failure if I can help it you give me a load it will get there safely.Robert1981 Thanks this. -
I never have service failures either, but I do it LEGALLY. I will not put my career and the well being of my family in jeopardy for a load. It only takes one time...a drunk driver to run into you, a cop that's feeling frisky...no thank you. They put e logs in this truck for a reason...and if dispatch can't figure out how to plan loads around that, then that is their problem.
Jarhed1964 Thanks this. -
look out for yourself. If you get violations or get in a wreck you may not be able to drive a truck. Or worse. Keep your record clean. And you can go elsewhere if necessary. Protect you first.
flightwatch Thanks this.
