A couple years back I was talking to a recruiter from Sharkey about a job. I know their trucks are older but other than that, it sounded like a decent gig. Especially since I only had 1 yr experience at the time. I was seriously considering the job and told the recruiter that I just needed to notify my current employer and work out a two-week notice. He then told me that the available position was time-sensitive and I needed to get to orientation ASAP. He told me to park my truck at the nearest truckstop and he would get me a bus ticket to Illinois from there.
Now I don't know about the rest of you, but when a recruiter is telling me that I need to abandon my truck while under a load to get to their orientation, that is a major red flag about the ethics of the company. Needless to say, I did not abandon my truck and I did not go to work for Sharkey. I was floored that this recruiter even suggested such a thing and I have no doubt that going to work for Sharkey would have been a serious mistake. Glad I dodged that bullet.
yes sharkey does suck

That's strait up BS. Because NO ONE WILL HIRE YOU IF YOU leave a truck!! Try telling your TALL stories somewhere else!

They told me essentially the same thing.Chris with sharkey/sisbro basicly said if I get to the terminal loaded or not just walk away. Quitting under dispatch is almost as bad as abandonment. This was only about a month ago. Then I guess they wondered why i didnt answer any of their calls after that conversation. T8thnote Thanks this. -

Most recruiters lie, just to get you into orientation.
Even if you filled out applications online, you'll probably still have to fill them out again when you show up.
You are not actually hired, until they put you in a truck.
I've also seen companies fire students that finished their training, cause for example they had only 4 trucks available but 10 students were finished in their training. So they gave them all road test, hired the best 4, and fired the rest for lame excuses.
They probably over hire to fill quotas so don't expect much until your actually in a truck.truckinmike1984 Thanks this. -
I call BS so far on his part until he explains!truckinmike1984 and DADof3 Thank this. -
Used them to get back on with them after I left for a short time! WOW, how much time did it take to look at every post I've posted since 2009? Dang, quit spending time one here and ask one of us out here on the road!
Good Luck.
PS quit waking up this thread. It stays dead for almost a year and then someone wakes it up posting some randomness!! -
This post was only started 5 months ago, how is someone waking it up after a year?
You were the first poster that woke up the thread after it had not been responded to in 2 months. Then someone else does the same thing 2 months later and its a problem?truckinmike1984 Thanks this. -
