I also have the drive of a passion to go otr and I know I will never experience it if I dont do it while Im young. The old lady wants to go back to school and right now I can not afford all of the bills on my income so she is allowing me to pursue this. Which would NEVER happen otherwise, golden opportunity Im thinkin.

Should have thought about that before you decided to drink and drive.
Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
agreed but can only make the best of it now
TruckDuo, blairandgretchen, Tonythetruckerdude and 1 other person Thank this. -
Maybe ..maybe not...think about this , these are your words now so.... [Quote Id be looking into a 25-30k dollar rig with a c15. Mileage doesnt scare me too terribly since i can spend 14k for a platinum overhaul kit and do the labor myself in a week.UN-Quote ]..."IF"....you are able to spend a maximum of 44k on a truck and getting it into shape...then you ARE able to afford to send "the old lady" back to school and probably still save some of that 44k to use on bills while she is in school...all the while you are letting some time elapse to distance yourself from that DUI charge...the more time you are removed from that the better. It may well mean that "the old lady" gets "her dream" 1st....but it's all about sacrifice...Good luck! Think about it....Keep turning those wrenches alittle while longer and you and the "old lady " will be a lot better off in the long run...her with a degree that earn her more money and you with the ability to live your dream of being an O/O...good things come to those who wait.....Good Luck!blairandgretchen and Derekjfarrington Thank this.

Tony the trucker dude - good points.
An educated spouse with better income would be more help in the longer term.
The DUI is still too fresh. Patience young man, patience.TruckDuo and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
I got kids his age......I ain't a perfect parent by no means...but I mean well most of the time. Told both of my boys'.... I'll never give you any advice , on anything , that I think will do you any harm at all. Worked pretty good too...the youngest one is an engineer...and the oldest just finished Med school last June...He is doing his 3 year residency at a hospital in NC as we speak. You can see some of their photos in the pics section of my profile too!blairandgretchen Thanks this.

I think like many things if you've got what it takes to succeed in a field you'll be ready from day 1 regardless of experience. Yes, that's counter intuitive ... i.e. experience, skills etc, but all of these things are secondary to drive, desire and initiative ... Imagine a young Bill Gates in college willing to drop-out start his own company ... what do you think people would be saying to him? But he knew he had what it takes. Probably very similar with o/o, approximately 20% of drivers have what it takes to be successful at it, and they could probably do it from day 1 (there's a rule in corporate America that 80% of the profit generation comes from 20% of the people.) Now discovering which 20% that is ... that's a different story altogether.

The OP just keeps ignoring what everyone is saying about how he cannot get leased on with a company with his DUI. So, go spend all that money, and then maybe you can use the truck for a lawn ornament when nobody will hire you.
Why did you even start this post if you're going to ignore what everybody says?
Good luck. You're going to need a truckload of it. -
Great points there man...we would be telling Mr. gates not to drop out of college...of course...but if he had came around asking for the same advice as the Op...only thing is he had a felony conviction hanging over his head....same ...same...this kid already has the deck stacked against him with that DUI..his fault ...yes absolutely....but not a career killer ..yet...the drive is important...yes....without it he would fail...but he needs to be prepared 1st...not go off half-####ed and with a noose (the DUI ) around his neck...let's compare apples to apples , shall we , and for the kids sake not give the OP false hope when he needs good , strong , common sense advice.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Agreeed he has to be realistic and play the odds here with the cash he has.
I like the idea of getting his partner into a job first to support him.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this.
