Just wondering if anybody has any recommendations on companies that take drivers with 6 months exp. I've been working at Pepsi in Orlando since I got my CDL. I like the job and do not mind the physical work at all, just feel I should be making more money personally. My goal right now is to get into US Foods but is there anything else out there that pays good and that allows you to be home every night? People say it's not always about the money but for me it is.

Try Gordon Foodservice. They have a small yard on Central Florida Parkway.

    How much is more money?

Are you grossing more than 900 a week? You have to be more specific there are a lot of local jobs and all in the same area.

You should stay with Pepsi till you get a yr in.Most local outfits require a yrs exp.Don't know if they mean a yr otr or a yr driving.

Good luck...florida is tough...get your tanker endorsement and try oakley down there...you will not be home every day but they pay well.

US Foods was bought by Sysco I would imagine there would be some consolidating going on. I only say this because the US Foods location near you might get merged into a SYSCO facility...I could be wrong but I'm glad I passed US Foods.

Thats around how much experience I have and I am getting on with Mclane in Kissimmee. Everyone has there reasons but I thought Pepsi was a good gig, especially if you were driving the dry vans instead of the bay trucks. You can try GFS as Oi! mentioned and all the other food distributors. Or hack it out for a bit longer, get your tanker/hazmat and get on with a local tanker outfit. You can be doing much much worst, and Pepsi for a new guy in the industry is a big plus as far as experience and how it looks on your resume.

Yea right now I works nights delivering to 7-11's Mon,Tue,Thur and Fri. On Wed nights we drive the dry vans to deliver to Sams Clubs. I'm grossing about 800-850 week right now and it's slow in the winter time. I'm also only working on average about 38-42 hours week.

Dude! - that's not too bad when you run the numbers and consider the hours/pay. I'd stay another 6 months, it'll pick up a bit more by June, and weigh your options then. Get your endorsements and look at LTL companies also. I have a neighbor that does McLane foods, pretty happy with it.

    I'd Suggest ABF

ABF hired me without Haz/Tank/Doubles endorsement. Worked the dock a few weeks then earned my endorsements.
But, I had 7 years experience. Your mileage may vary, Never hurts to contact ABF.

That amounts to about $20 an hour. How is that bad? Yeah you aren't getting as many hours as you might want but that's not a bad deal at all.

You already have local delivery experience, specially delivering to gas stations. Any foodservice company will give you a shot if you have a decent MVR. McLane is in Kissimme, GFS is where I told you and Sysco is in Ocoee. There's also Sygma I don't where they are at. Cheney Brothers is also here somewhere. There is that company that delivers to all the Mickey D's, what's that called? MBI?

What about Publix? Goya has their own trucks too. There's a lot of foodservice in this city. We don't make anything here, we just eat it.
