I have a run coming up - actually, a combination of two. One part of the load is a 2008 Great Dane 48' spread axle reefer (not SS.) I'm not familiar with the trailer and I've never dealt with a reefer before so I'm a little ignorant as to how this will work.

After I get the trailer I am to pick up a load of seed corn - 44,500 lbs of it. Bags on pallets. I do not know how many pallets. I'm pulling it with a daycab setup up for my Landoll. My tractor weighs ~14,500.

My question is, do I have them single 1 or two pallets in the nose? I've never run a spread before, let alone a reefer. This isn't my first rodeo by any stretch, but I'm a little out of my element here.

My guess is have them load as light as possible in the nose, right? Is it not virtually impossible to be over on the rears of a spread in a scenario like this?

I've hauled a ton of seed, I'm a farmer. Double stack the front two and single stack a few then start double stacking on the back. 44,500 is not a lot of seed corn. If you get super sacks WATCH YOUR SIDE WALLS super sacks will relax when the fork truck sit's them down and they will blow out a wall I've seen it done. Also don't let that fork truck driver tell you they stack these on top of each other. He's full of ####. They don't, if those fall over it will damage your trailer. Yes don't worry about over loading your rear end. Make sure you have a dump valve to release the pressure of one of the spreads axles. If you don't have one do not turn sharp and stay away from curves. A lot of guys will tell you it doesn't matter, I pull a spread everyday it matters.

Seed corn loads my dad always went 3 singles a double 3 singles a double that format all the way to the back. That was on a 53 though. Seed corn is heavy, the advise on the walls is #### good advise but 44500 isn't that much on a 48 spread when you figure your legal gross is 86000lbs if you're plated for it. Dump valves help with tires, I've pulled trailers with and without, they cut down on turning radius but they're not required and some states will write you up for having one. That being said I'm #### glad the bull racks I pull have dump valves. If they didn't wed have a lot more problems and probably have more trailers in ditches. Just remember to air that darn thing back up. If you don't you can crack a sub frame over time

I've never heard of a state writing a ticket for a dump valve and I pulled a spread in all 48 and never was even questioned about it.

At 379EXHD, I pulled cattle a few years I remember seeing guys crack their sub frames and blow out bags from leaving it down. When I was empty I didn't worry about it to much but loaded I always used it and on my truck and trailer if you'd flip it as soon as you started the turn but the time you got straight good and shifted from 1st over to 2nd under it was back down like it should be. If you think I'm referring to an 18 speed check my username rookies. I've pulled and OUT RUN anything with a 425 cat with the pumped turned up and a 6 and 4. I remember going across OK one night running so fast I felt like I was floating. It was fun. I pulled a reefer for a week and I absolutely hated it.

I didn't figurre they still built trucks with twin sticks any more. In the sixties when I started driving first semi I drove was a 238 Jimmy with a 4x4. Then got to go big time with a Mack and a 4 x 5. Ah the good old days.

Mine was a 1989 or 90 379EXHD Peterbilt flatop with the twins. I could idle 72 when I got both sticks against the dash with about 68 heifers on

Missouri Nebraska and Iowa will write you up for it, something about changing weights on scales. Its like a cab controlled tag axle that's a $250 fine in Nebraska hell I've got backup lights when they ask about the blue chord that's what it controls or so they think.

I havnt had a subframe crack yet knock on wood but I've heard of that happening and the trailer folding up like an accordion. I take it your 6x4 is an double over? I'm sure that girl will flat out fricken fly specially on tall rubber. Im supposed to get loaded either tomorrow or Monday for sure gonna have one hell of a week problem is I went from a 100+ Pete to a Pete with an rtlo18918b and 3.70s with a gutless 550 ACERT. But I'll be happy to get my old girl back got some things to take care of after I get it back then I figure I'll dump some more money into her and take their from 107 to doing every bit of a 120mph speedo.

At this point the honest answer is:
This incomplete question is NOT answerable at this time--as stated--YOU DO NOT KNOW how many plts--or plt weight--provide us with THAT info--and many of us can tell you EXACTLY how to load that wagon--and a few variations so it will ride/handle better dependin on your taste......
