Hello Ex-Con, no, I'm not making excuses for every accident, it sounded that way but I know it was my fault and I've learned from my mistakes. Thanks for your advice, I'll plan things better in the future.

If you talk to most of these guys with 5 million miles safe driving, you'll see they have been running a dedicated run for most of that time. When you only drive from one point and back, it's easy to avoid the incidents that are inevitable with going to new places all the time. Give me the power to dispatch any of these "perfect" drivers for just one week; I guarantee they will get tangled up in an incident of some kind. There are so many places I've had to go that have no business receiving freight from 53' OTR trucks. These places will proclaim "we get trucks in here all the time", you get there and think WTF! I point out all the prior damages to the tree bark, the brick dock enclosure, the sidewalks, the steel posts, the signs, the landscaping. They ignore the prior damages then , but if you continue on into that mess, they will sure as heck want some money when you recrack their already cracked brick or crack that busted up curb again. It's BS!

then please explain for us "old technophobes" how did we ever manage to deliver anything on time and intact back in the 40's , 50's , 60's , '70's, 80's...how did we get along without this stuff....it's been posted that GPS units are a "tool"...just like a phone , or a map....a tool!gpsman Thanks this. -
Sounds like the OP has pressure from dispatch as one of his problems in addition to impatience and poor judgement.
When you miss a turn and you may end up having to drive 20 miles or more to find a place big enough to turn around. I could see the pressure to fix your mistake as quick as possible before the main office sees you're off course with their 24/7 surveillance/tracking systems.
There are times when the only option is reverse gear and that might be a few miles.
And then don't forget to GTFOAL when you think you found a spot to turn around. And these spots NEVER include grass. And forget the "cross your fingers and gas on it" method too.

Does'nt matter if you're dedicated,otr,regional or local,your job as a trk driver is to drive trk and watch all of your surroundings.Most the accidents out here are 90%drivers error.Your job also is to deliver or pick up wherever they send you no matter how tight the area is.You hit something it is your fault and no lame excuse justifies it.

I think some of these guys that claim they have yrs exp is just to make them look good.But there posts tells me otherwise.

Would someone please tell me the difference between incident and accident ?You hit something I call that a drivers fault accident.
