I paid for Pilots wifi but the signal was always absolutely horrible and kept disconnecting even close to the building. I was wondering if I have any other options and what does everyone else use for internet connection?
What does everyone use for internet on the road?

I have Verizon Wireless, but I have the old unlimited data plan that they no longer offer.

Mostly my phone. I have 10 gigs, but I do buy the wifi for $20/mo at pilot or flying j if I'm going to need my laptop for serious emails or setting up certain accounts that are difficult to manage in a mobile ap. This has worked for me so far.

AT&T or Sprint, $40 to $60 dollars a month via an aircard plugged into the laptop. Used AT&T for a long time but Sprint gives you more data for less money. Never had an issue with either as for coverage back when I was driving 48 state. The WIFI is okay if you just need a few hours here and there but to be truly connected and to have freedom to connect wherever you may be an aircard or tethering through your phone are the way to go.

Do you pay for internet a lot?Why not buy Verizon or from some other provider and you'll get signal just about anywhere.

I used a Sprint wifi hotspot with unlimited data for the bulk of things. Not a great provider, Sprint. Spotty coverage and a lot of bandwidth throttling. A few things you could be sure of; paying your bill every month, getting atleast some form of data coverage in a major metro you were laying over in, and a lot of frustration.
I also used my Verizon data plan. Now there's a mobile data provider!
In general, Verizon was amazing on the road. Without a second of a doubt I always, ALWAYS had voice coverage with Verizon. Regardless of where I was. It's almost like they said in a board meeting "If it's a road, and it's in the continental US, you'd better ###### well be sure it has voice service." And the data coverage is insane. 4G in the Bovina, TX? The population is less than 1,000 people out there, more cows than people! And yet it has 4G coverage, fast 4g, no less! Verizon is awesome, but you'll pay out the nose for it. Comes out to about $8/gig on the regular plan, till you max out then it goes to $10-12/gig depending on what plan you have.
Expect that to come down in the near future as they pay off the money used to build this massive data coverage.
Anyhow, T-mobile is junk, altel is a joke and AT&T is plain terrible when it comes to data and voice coverage.
Realistically, what this comes down to is what you want, against what you need, against what you can afford.
I recommend Verizon.
Sprint is also acceptable, if you like constant disappointment.truckon, Razor3 and Criminey Jade Thank this. -
