My old shop steward told me when he first started at Yellow there were only hand trucks,no pallet jacks. One good thing about being union that if they wanted me to break down a 3000 pound skid and bring it upstairs I could say NOPE

I told the loader to go muck himself when he tried to load 5 buckets. I was heavily reprimanded and taken off the account mid shift. Quit, The next day and never signed/agreed about my punishment. No paper trail and I don't even bother to put it on my resumes lmao.
Yup indeed non union work won't make it end of shift

We had quite a few drops for residences from Home Depot. People would order it at the store and there was one salesman who would promise them the world. The appliance would be a direct ship from factory to customer, and the customer would expect us to place the appliance for them. Even had a few who would not understand that we wouldn't set the washer & dryer up for them!
We did return a few of these to the manufacturer, and I'm betting the manager at Home Depot was a whole lot less than impressed with his salesman, when he got the freight billing, both ways, with no sale to go with it! -
We just started doing in-house deliveries (as part of a new premium service). We have the "threshold" delivery (inside the garage or at the doorstep)... or our premium delivery where we drag the freight inside the house and do some minor set-up/packaging removal. One more reason why I am glad I am not doing P&D

I do believe that would be enough to make me pull the plug. Why the hell should a delivery driver employed by a common carrier, be required to be a set up technician.

Gonna go ahead and chime in on this one... the only thing that bugs me about the unions is that over the course of several years (decades even) they have build a large wall separating themselves from management. It seems like both union and management are just trying to screw each other over more and more. The workplace becomes less productive. In some instances, it creates unnecessary tension and a negative workplace environment.
Edit: If my workplace ever becomes union, I will probably quit. Not because I don't support unions, but because of the workplace tensions they could cause. I am a happy company driver. I get paid fairly for what I do. I joined to be part of Reddaway... not a union.
