Can't help you with the opti idle as I'm an O/O and my fuel is mine to burn as I please.

As far as directions, MAC 23 and MAC 12. MAC 23 put in the S for shipper, C for consignee or the stop number. You will get directions put in by a driver or CSR, to the location. You can update it with a MAC 18. MAC 12 is a strip map and will direct you from your last recorded QC location to your next stop.

As far as you layover/detention pay. For this particular instance, both. Call payroll and find out what they need as far as documentation, the person it has to go to and then have your DM supply it.

Yes when they advance you money to the fuel card for lumpers and such, if you request more than you need to pay the lumper they just count it as pay.

So when the lumper says they need $100 bucks you send the appropriate macro for $100 or perhaps $1 million, and pay the lumper $100 bucks. Your next paycheck will show a negative $999,900 but you still have that amount on your comdata card to spend as you please.

Every place that Swift has on their system to send you does have at least one location code. Such a list would resemble a phone book (remember those?) with many thousands of names. If you pull up a location on your Dispatch screen (in the Navigation section), you get a Location Details screen. It's the one with the green Get Route button. It gives a Customer Code, among other things.

Another way to get these codes is to be at (or near) a location, and while in Navigation, do Menu -> Where To? -> Points of Interest -> Trucking -> Customers Nearby. While not the greatest way to get you TO the place, it will let you get BACK to the location if you note the code.

I'm in the process of writing up a How-To guide on finding and using these location codes on the QC, which I will post here in the Swift section.

Ive never used the navigation on the qualcomm before because ive always had my external gps unit. But I think my GPS just took a crap on me, thought about using my ipad mini with CoPilot truck software, but thats a $150 expense.

Is the navigation on the qualcomm a truck based gps? as in similar to a truck gps so it wont route me in illegal areas? (or not supposed to anyways)

99.5% of the time it will route you on truck routes. The only times I've had a problem with the QC GPS is off freeways or major routes. Funny thing is that in Swift orientation they insisted we use QC GPS and NOT use alternative GPS units or use them "at our own risk".

The QC GPS will have major problems if you ask it for a reroute when in city traffic. Invariably it will direct you to turn around in Mrs. Jone's backyard or run down an alley with low hanging wires. Use caution and common sense.

Thanks, sounds like a $150 investment wouldn't help.

Right now I'm running on a team truck and the lead driver has a Garmin that we run side by side with the QC nav system. Fundamentally they run the same, but in certain areas the Garmin will route us truck safe while the QC will take us over load restricted roads, etc. The QC will also lose connection sometimes when it seems the Garmin is much more solid with satellite connection.

If it was up to me I'd stay with the QC nav system for now. Eventually I'll spring for a RM 720 when I get back to solo, but until then I'll stay with the QC.

    Not exactly.
The advance is deducted from your pay, and the amount from the receipts you scan in is reimbursed.
So if you take more than necessary the extra is still deducted.

While you may be ahead in the ComData account, your paycheck will be short by that much.
Not so easy to make money on the sly when it all balances out in the end.
    LOL

    One other thing.
To get reimbursed on the next check, the receipts have to be scanned in by the previous Wednesday at midnight. (the end of the pay period)
Even accelerated pay won't get around that.
So there may be times that you would have to wait an extra week to get reimbursed, like when you deliver a lumper load on Wednesday night and you can't get it scanned in time.
In those cases you would see the advance deducted from the next check and get paid back on the following check.
