There is some truth to that... doesn't really matter if you are union or not. ... scheissty management/leadership will bring down an entire workplace. When you have slackers or clock-riders, it should be up to competent management to nip it in the bud before it causes workplace moral to drop.

Not gonna lie... I actually like my terminal manager... not because he gave me as a rookie driver a sweet sweet linedriver job... but because I had a chance to talk to him on a personal level. He is about 9 years older than me I think. Told me he started out as a dock worker for CF (Conway Freight I guess)... then got his CDL, ran P&D. Eventually scrapped up enough money to pay for a Transportation Management degree in college; and he became our terminal manager.
As a TM, he hosts all kinds of pizza parties for his terminal to appreciate his employees.
Last summer he came to our satellite terminal to run P&D for two weeks after two of our senior guys quit all of of a sudden. The first day I saw him dressed up in uniform running a forklift to load his trailer I asked a coworker "did he lose a bet or why is he dressed like one of us". Usually I see him in business attire running spreadsheets and dealing with big-wig clients of ours.
Total respect for the man. -
Been a crazy few weeks for me heck I barely have enough time to eat!crb and road_runner Thank this. -
so who picked up CF? I know Viking Express was picked up by FedEx....
-
CF went out of business. The parent company made up all those Con-way regional companies which were non union. After a while they started diverting all the freight to the regionals and CF was in debt and ended up going under, then after a few years they made the regionals Con-Way freight. That's why you see a lot of old school guys HATE CWF. Cool35 was at CF when it happened he would be able to tell more. A old co-worker at YRC told me his stories at CF, was there for 23 years and was one of the top guys.

I wasn't old enough to notice back in their days, but apparently they were huge, their terminal in Orlando was so gigantic it had to be split into two parts and sold off to two different companies. This isn't a huge industrial city, we are not Chicago or Dallas either and specially back in the 80s or 90s when that terminal was built Orlando wasn't even half of what it is now. So CF must've been HUUUUGE back in its day.road_runner Thanks this. -
CF was the biggest at its time. Then YRC became the biggest, now I'm not sure.
I see this old CF trailer all the time floating through my townAttached Files:
