well.. after sitting for a few hours, decided to give it a try and see how far i get today. 451 miles in 10.5 hours. had a 3 car and 1 semi accident rite off this morning and nothing since. most of it was one lane untill i got on i-77. then it was dark and i drove a little slower. had a problem with my windsheild freezing up and mirrors too. mirror heater wasn"t working. made a few stops to clean the mirrors. was an interesting and stressful trip. was really my first snow driving trip of any kind. at lleast i didn't hit noone abd madwe it here safely. i stopped at the ta on i-77 ex 41. i want to say thanx a bunch to the driver that came over and help me blindside in the spot. driver on one side had parked crooked and was pretty tight to get in and blindside parking isn't fun on a good day lol. i"m about 2 hours ferom my dewlivery and have till monday to get it there. my sis live couple hours from there, so she said she drive over on sunday.

well.. i sure goofed this time. i woke up this morning and qualcom said i have only 8.5 hrs to drive.hmmm talked to my driver leader friday morning and he mentioned i was getting close on my 70. i mentioned i have 11 friday, and 9 on sat.(today) and looked like 3.5 on sunday. so should be no problem making the monday delivery. i asked him how do i check for recap on elogs and he wasn't sure. so i said ask someone and let me know when i talk to him again. but he said he didn't see any problems making the delivery. so this morning, i did a quick numbers check and thought i could make it with the 8~5 hrs today and the 3.5 hrs tomorrow.( don't know where the nine hours i thought i had went). drove the 8 hrs and pulled in this little gas station off of us 61 in bowling greens mo. to see if there's any truck stops or rest areas in my little t/s book. and there wasn't any except this one within the 30 min. i had left. and i'm still 2015 mile away from drop. called dispatch to see if he can help me with my hours and he said i had NO hours for tomorrow. he explained since i took the 34 hr reset 7 days ago, the 3.5 hrs isn't considered. just great! he said the drop doesn't have to be there till the 5th even though the qualcom says it 0700 monday morning delivery. so no service failure. we talked and decided to do a 34 reset now and get hours back. !,llget up and leave around 0200 monday morning and still make the 0700 monday delivery time. now stuck here in this little place. saw a big screen in front of store..so i hope they play tthe game tomorrow

To calculate recap hours I use a simple method (maybe someone else has a simpler one) like this
7 days ago-
Today.
Write down the hours for each of those days. At midnight Today (technically, tonight) you get back 7 days ago's hours. Add everything up. If it is over 70, no driving. Anything less is what you have available to drive.
An easy way to trip plan for me is to take those cheap loose leaf logs and plot out the trip pick up and delivery times (14 hour clocks and 10 hour breaks) along the 24 hour grids (there are 5 grids per sheet, representing 5 whole days) Where the 24 hours are supposed to be added up, I put the available hours there. To the left of each 24 hour grid I put the date. In this way I can project if a load is doable with my hours - time:distance. -
Hi dptrucker...I know this thread hasn't seen any action in a long time, but I'm kind of in the same situation as you were when you got back behind the wheel. I've been out of the industry for over ten years and now I'm looking to get back in. Still have CDL and med card and all endorsements. I just need to knock the rust off. Swift is willing to bring me in for orientation and a road test then on to a mentor. Recruiter said if my road test doesn't go well they'll send me for a refresher course for 5 days, then a mentor. I was curious, when they road test you at orientation, do you have to go over the WHOLE pretrip and all...you know where they check off hundreds of things on their checklist...I mean, I know how to pretrip but I was wondering how thorough they are at that point... Thanks
