Tell them you want to stay out three weeks for a week off. I'm sure they'll let you.

Schneider does it. It's called the Homerun program. Three drivers share two trucks. Works out better as you can set up both trucks with a fridge, CB, tools, sat radio, etc and just take your personal effects with you when you go home. The downside is that Schneider won't find two other drivers for you. You just have to get together with other drivers. I would seriously forget about doing this with any company that slip seats you. Slip seat trucks are filthy, broken, worn down, and always in need of something. Not to mention its just downright distgusting living in the inevitable filth of a slip seat truck.

A few companies do that but consider:

You will be slip seating. That is every three weeks you will have to wait for a truck. Check the roach out thoroughly. Send it to the shop for a couple days. Inspect, count, and arrange supplies like snow chains, load locks, and the like. Move three weeks of stuff into the truck. Acquaint yourself with the truck and clean it out before you move. Then do the same when you move out of it three weeks later. All in all you will be lucky if you are rolling two of the three weeks.

Next, companies that do this do not plan you any different. You will be getting the same 1700 miles a week, but now with only the equivalent of two weeks of pay for 3 weeks of work. So at 30cpm: 1700 x.30 x.2 = 1020 for the month. You would think they would compensate you differently but they don't; the desk jockeys are in it for themselves: not you or the company.

You would think companies that claim to be 'family orientated' would make this workout. With 52 weeks in the year and you are home 1/4 of them for 7 days: 52weeks x 1/4 x 7(days/week) = 91 days home. Working a regular job 5 days on 2 days off: 52weeks x 2days = 104 days home.

    So working at fast food at $10 a hour for the month: $10 x 8hours x 21(woking days a month) = $1680.

'family trucking': 14 hours a day, 91 days off a year, $1020 a month to live on.
fast food: 8 hours a day, 102 days off a year, $1680 a month to live on.

So fast food makes you more money, gets you home more, and lets you work less.
