If you don't mind me asking, what was your medical emergency?

Unbelievable. Hope you're feeling better. I wonder.....how popular, profitable, would a trucking company be if they 1) treated their drivers well 2) paid a fair wage? I can't believe one doesn't exist. Certainly, someone can temper profit with a comfortable work environment.

Bad Juju LIL_MAC. Hope you feel better soon. I have only been in the industry a short time now, but I have observed for a long time. I have seen that same thing quite a few times. Most companies, especially the moderate to large ones, are purely motivated by profits, as with anyone, they have bills. That is a crap situation, and I hope you find a better company soon. Best wishes.

Well, when you think about it, while the economy is making it's supposed 'comeback', trucking companies are trying to find new ways to cut costs. While what this particular company did to LIL_MAC was morally bankrupt, look at it from a power planners view. You have a driver down, through no fault to the company, and that tractor is sitting there, not turning miles, not hauling loads. Firing him was reprehensible, but pulling the Tractor, especially if he was going to be down a while, is something I could legitimately understand. Again, I disagree with them firing him, but I could understand wanting that tractor rolling ASAP.

Heartland made a profit off of you when they
terminated you. You lost your safety bonus
and the vacation pay you would have gotten
after 1 year of driving for them. They dont
care if you come back to work or not. They
have plenty of new applicant's coming in
every week. Im glad you like your new job,
I also found a better company after I quit
    driving for Heartless...

First.. I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery..

Now, I am gonna play devils advocate here.. your surgery was not related to an injury at work and so was probably scheduled... with most companies, there is a policy that if the driver is going to be out of their truck not driving for a period of time.. for a scheduled surgery and recovery, a family vacation, or what ever reason they have to turn jn the truck and be assigned another when they return... for some companis it is 5 days, for others longer like 7 days or such.. so them asking you to clean out and turn in your truck since you will be off and out of it for a week or more is not wrong... when a truck is gonna sit driverless... that is a peril of being a company driver.. the truck is not yojrs it is the companies.. if that is not acceptable to you than you need to co sidered being an O/O .. you dont have to worry about cleaning out your truck if you wont be driving it for a week or so.. although, you do have to worry abojt payments, and all the other costs and responsibilities of being and O/O in order to have the perks...

As for their terminating you because you are having surgery, feel there is more to it... it is not uncommon for a business to terminate an employee that will be absent for a long period of time, say a month.. they terminate the employee or have the employee go resign but eligiable for rehire....
