Because the lie is so widespread that you GOTTA have OTR before you can get a local job. And who do you think is spreading that lie? Could it be--RECRUITERS??? :biggrin_25525:

Some of these rookies out here, deserve to go OTR first. They destroy equipment, cannot hook, too proud to ask.

When I was a rookie, if I was unsure, I flagged a senior guy who I think was knowledgeable and asked for help. Some of these trucking school graduates dont deserve to get behind the wheel of a car, much less longer combinations.

Couldn't have said it better myself centuryclass. Just because you need a job and paid for your own schooling doesn't make you more qualified than someone who has experience. Both otr and local need drivers. Just be ready to start peddling without training wheels if you do go onboard with a local carrier. God knows how many 2 AM phone calls I made to our senior drivers about the most mundane and basic questions.

When I was at UPSF and present ABF. Network and ask the seniors, Never had a problem. They are true co-workers,Not "trainer" never see again. After all we sorta fund their pension/ easier for both of us ( swap loads, accounts, help with equipment etc etc ) What ever makes crap easier on everyone ( team player )....... :)

My rant is I'm trying to move back East, New Jersey. All the companies I am looking at (Estes, NEMF, YRC, ABF, and a gas hauler) want me to have my hazmat, which I do have. But If I move back and trade in my cdl, I loose the hazmat for a month while the fingerprints come back. New York and New Jersey don't issue a temp hazmat like Texas and Pennsylvania do if you already have it. Im just frustrated, since it seams that I would loose my hazmat, wait till I get it, then apply for the above companies, and wait till they say yes or maybe no. 2+ months, Do I want to have a third trucking job in less than a year and a half with a cdl, just to try get to a fourth company that I would want to stay at and an area that I want to stay in.

Well Shag, you probably deserve to get crap for that post. I just don't get the "I'm better than you," attitude, just because of the type of driving you do. In a trucking career, most people are going to have experienced a little bit of everything. And every bit of it is something they should, and most likely do, learn from.

I had this same issue when I moved my license from FL to NY. As long as your hazmat is valid, they are supposed to issue you a temporary license with the hazmat endorsement on it. The clerks do not have a clue about this. If they try to tell you otherwise, ask to speak to the supervisor about this. Or call the hazmat unit in the state. I'm sure the rules would be quite similar.

This delayed my start date with con-way by like 3 weeks.

And good luck moving back to the land of commies. I jetted out of there over 2 years ago, and I refuse to go back there unless it's a short visit. I want to go to Columbia Law School in NYC, but I think I will settle for a B school just to not have to live in the tri state again.

Shaggy I will agree with you about that, but at the same time agree with Big Don. Just because we are fortunate to have good paying jobs and get to sleep in our beds every night doesn't make us any better. It's what they chose to do.

I've said that to the TM at the hub I run to every night. He always talks down on people and one day he did that to me, and I said to him what makes you think your better than me that you talk to me like I. A piece of ####, Because you went school and became a boss and I didn't? I didn't have that opportunity as I had to quit high school to support my parents... He turned around walked away, ever since then he leaves me alone or if he does talk to me he talks with respect... Just so everyone knows that thing of me quitting school is made up. Just shows that you dont know everyone's situation and so on.
