Wait till you deliver at Walmart. Now THAT will have a profound impact on your psyche. Company policy is to treat all "associates" like complete crap. No exception. I once had to politely remind the shipping manager that I was a company driver for the vendor that they were using.

"I don't care who you work for. You are inside of our company property and you will do your job our way".

    Marksteven and Shaggy Thank this.

    Funny, someone mentions wally world.

Long story short: Had a Pickup( W-M ) for return to vendors DC on monday, 12 miles down the road. It was a super rush job. 9 pallets of moderate value wellness crap.
Single layer wrap:20-25 pieces x 5 feet. This crap needed to be reworked from the start. Did i mention rush job? Leaning heavily ETC....

Started to rework 1 and the shift lead told me to stop. So i did and then took pictures/ noted the names with some load bars in place.
Arrive at vendor. 3 of them were scattered on the floor. The vendor wasn't happy to say in so many words. Showed pictures and was good to go.

Whatever is their way, Sure makes the associates look like idiots. Felt bad for the older retired gentleman and him training someone at the same time. The shift lead was a Richard head.

Couldn't work for wally world, even as a driver making good wage. Embarrassed to know crap like the above situation happens every day.

Went to the wrong end of home depot. The illegals are very welcoming personnel :biggrin_255:

Never had the pleasure of a lowes store.

I did P&D for two days when one of our drivers took the week off to go fishing. I ran Home Depot both days. I remember the shipping manager. Name was Mark. Pretty cool guy. Asked me if I was his new driver "nope, just filling in". I guess I didn't have to, but I walked each longer pallet off the trailer with him as he drove the forklift (in case they toppled off of the shorter forklift tines).

He called up my supervisor at my yard.... said "I was a swell guy" and he requested that I do his deliveries from now. Again, no such luck. That night after I came home, my dispatcher called me up to run line. "can't do it boss, I just got done doing a full day of P&D".

Five or six expletives later, my dispatcher hung up. That was the last time they allowed me to run P&D for a full day. Kinda sucks. Mark was a nice customer to deliver to.

BTW, I did my Wal-Mart load right after Home Depot... hence the sharp contrast that I mentioned earlier.

Tell me about it Shaggy.... Corporate WalMart is the devil, and each store is just a different level of Dante's Inferno hell. I worked there as an "associate". The stories from there are so long and horrendous, they would never allow me to post them on here.

As for their driving division, I heard when it comes to OTR, they are considered to be one of the best to get on board with. During the ATA conference last year that addressed driver retention, they invited WalMart to speak on their trucking division and why their turnover rate was below 10%. Higher than average wages, awesome benefits (including a 10% discount at all stores) plus generous hometime was part of their reasons. Oddly enough, as the store employees get treated like doormats, the drivers are treated like gods. Again, sharp contrast. Their trucking division is its own world.

Heard you still have to sell your soul to get on board.

I should add: I'll take my worst day doing P&D over the smoothest day OTR ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!

Oh geeze, I think they must either do a psychological test and hire only the ones who fail, or they take "sort of normal" people and put them through some kind of mind bending crap school. I am about as happy to go into Home Depot to shop, as a lot of folks are to go into Walmart to shop. And it is solely for the way the three stores in my area treat the delivery personnel.

The one Lowes that I used to deliver to here was pretty good. You treat them with respect and you get it in return. In fact, I used to get treated well at the Lowes DCs when I was on the road!

Most receiving personnel have a bad attitude. I'm sorry your company ordered this freight, is the only reason I'm here jackhole. Most make it seems like the world is coming to an end for doing their job..hmm receiving. Holy cow.

    Costco
Walmart to name a few. Not too shocked about wally.Walmart seem to want to hire mostly from the bottom of the gene pool anyway.
