Cons: Having to possibly explain yourself every time you take a different route other than the authorized route.

Dealing with a Company that doesn't trust a driver to make informed, logical decisions on routes.

The computer selects fuel stops based on cheap fuel only, and doesn't take into account whether or not the truck stop is a manure pit with no parking, high crime, lot lizards, etc.

 

Hey man, sorry for the delay in the response. As far as the hiring criteria goes, here is what the company requires:

"MVR
23 years of age or older
No alcohol related violations in the past 5 years
No serious moving violation in the past 3 years
Including 15 mph or greater, reckless driving, following too close, or license suspension for points or hazmat violation
No accident-related violations in the past 3 years
Including leaving the scene of an accident, hit and run, or failure to report
Less than 3 minor moving violations in the past 3 years
No DOT recordable, preventable accidents in the past 3 years

Criminal History
No felonies in the past 7 years
No misdemeanors in the past 7 years
Including theft, dishonesty, fraud, drug-related misdemeanor, domestic violence, battery, or firearm-related misdemeanor

Employment
No more than 6 jobs in the past 3 years
Never refused a drug screen or have had a positive drug screen

Experience
While we do accept recent driving school graduates, WEL will provide addition training.
For experienced drivers, we require that all applicants have a minimum of 150,000 miles of over-the-road experience."

Different companies look at different aspects of a criminal record. Some is the date of release, some the arrest, some the conviction. Here it's the date of the conviction in court. Generally if there's the years since then it have seen guys not have a problem.

The only thing I would be concerned about is the SoCal location. We do have a terminal in Modesto, but when we get to SoCal it's on ltl's and occasional truck loads. My best advice would be to call and talk to a recruiter. They can give you a more exact answer.

I personally feel they company works great for me and I would recommend trying to look into us. Hope this info helps.

 

anyone that needs routeing should not be in trucking as for the 2 yrs experience I actyually started driving oin 1991 just got out for a several yrs so had to start over so I drove before gps even existed so for any one that can,t drive without routeing should not be driving and to this day I still do not use gps people that need to be given routing or need gps is what is the problem wth this industry and also reason why you see so many trucks in accidents and or hitting low bridgres

 

Though I agree with you in part, I also dissagree. The issue I have is with the use of the word "need" and the implication that anyone who USES a GPS NEEDS it and therefore should not be driving. I agree that if you can not plan your route without a GPS or without forced routing, then you should not be driving. I do not agree that no one should use a GPS. We don't NEED air conditioning, but it makes our lives easier. We don't NEED computers, but we use them. We don't NEED this forum, but its filled with so much information that it becomes useful. To NEED something because you can't do your job is one thing, to REFUSE to use technology that can help make your job easier is simple stubbornness. I use EVERY resource available. Including Google Earth, which I don't NEED but it helps me visualize my destination BEFORE I get there.

 

I use a Garmin. And I love it. I use it for trip planning. Anyone who says "bah humbug" to technology that obviously makes our job easier is a caveman. iPhones, satellite radio, GPS, and even the dreaded e-logs are tools to make you more efficient.

 

Its been less than a year since I left Millis but when did Love's become a fuel stop for them. You used to get a fuel book that had all the pilots/flying j, 90% of the T/A and some ambest/mom and pops that you could fuel at unless it was needed. Not questioning just curious.

 

I think he fuels there exclusively by choice.

 

Sometime last summer they added all Loves to the fuel program. . Imo you cant beat the rewards program

 

I fuel at Love's out of choice. When you look at the rewards program its a no brainer, I make roughly $75 a month of free money just for fueling there exclusively, you can't get that anywhere else. I've boought a 40 qt. 12 v cooler for free, a new Mic for free, A new Antenna for my CB ($60) for free, not to mention free refills, showers that never run out, and I walk out with about $10 in food a day that I never have to pay for. In my opinion when you have the choice it doesn't make any sense to fuel up anywhere else.

 

Yeah the rewards program for them rocks, just wasn't aware Millis had added them as a fuel stop, they must have done that right before/after I left.
