let me say thanks for the useful info about calex. I was considering them. but they sound no better then celadon. And i went through celadon's orientation in march. didn't like what they had to say or offer. so i left before they could lie me into their truck.

    JohnBoy Thanks this.

I've not been on here following along for quite some time. I'm shocked that Jon is no longer at Calex, but can certainly understand his position. Actually, I can relate so well because I was in his position a long time ago with a company called TRL. Short for Transcontinental Refrigerated Lines out of Pittston Pa. There were many of us that grew with the company and had TRL blue blood flowing through our veins. In the end, along with the growth of the company, came the discarding of the drivers names. We became numbers to the yuppie fleet managers and the bottom line was we were treated like crap where we were once treated like kings. Not quite the same scenario but close.

Good luck Jon. Wishing you the best.

Any Current Calex drivers running their local work? I was wondering what kind of mileage they are giving the local drivers.

Calex is a third rate company, wanna run CA for next to nothing ? Calex would be a good fit. Fat tommy Grimes has been fired from every job he ever had in trucking and they have him running the show, so that should tell you something

Yikes. You are wrong on so many points...where do I start?

Tommy was let go from his last job along with several others for making too much. The chip company got rid of all their higher paid employees. Do not believe me? Call safety and ask for Joan. She is helping out so Brian can have a well earned vacation and has worked with Tommy for several decades at various companies.

Third rate? Annual raises, 68 mile an hour trucks (the rest of our per mile raise is going to rising fuel costs,) an electronic log system with personal conveyance wiggle room (no, it is not a single selection. Some brains are required,) average pay per mile with a tough but possible bonus program, 34% idle time per quarter ignored (the rest of our per mile raise is going to rising fuel costs,) pets allowed with steep fees, and 24 hour on call mechanics who mostly have a clue (once they get a mental picture of which of 4 truck make/models you have.)

Yes, several factors are impacting our coast drivers right now. The better ones are being zig-zagged around to keep their miles up and EVERYONE is frustrated with the newest dispatcher, Chuck. Yes, the miles paid for a given run have been reduced twice in the 4? years I have worked here. We are still getting more miles for a run than many companies pay.

Yes, the Volvo trucks are becoming more junky. The new one we got last year rode like a Jeep Wrangler and was just as noisy. Now we have Peterbuilt trucks that are a much smoother and quieter ride. The storage areas are not micro managed with cabinets, shelves, and drawers so our less imaginative folks are flipping out. 61,000 and the only problem is a minor windshield leak. Totally worth shifting and slow wipers.

i drove for calex and i was constantly running the northeast, only downfall was there was occasions when I couldn't get home ( I live in Delaware.) their maintenance needs some tweeking. Reason I left was because I took a load to NYC and was heading home for vacation (with my truck) and get almost home and they decided that they needed the truck back at the yard and was supposed to get me a rental car to get home which they did not do. So I took a local job getting me home almost every day.
