I am compelled to say this every time this discussion comes up: IF a company WANTS to voluntarily utilize EOBR technology.....fine; those that like them can work there. For an independent... especially a one truck motor carrier......to be FORCED to by the gov. is absurd. There IS no link to safety....it is about compliance and control. Period. And "leveling the playing field" according the ATA and their mega-w hore sponsors. Think Nagasaki when you picture level playing field.

I'm not saying it is linked to safety, but you can't honestly say after staying awake for more than 18hours your brain is fully functional. And as I mentioned. It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch. You can't blame the government only the drivers that abused a good thing and have now ruined it for everyone

When did I say I had stayed awake for more than 18 hrs????

If it's not linked to safety........then it doesn't need to be a MANDATE. You like 'em....you run 'em.

Hopefully the Gov't knows when I've been up all night with a sick kid, I log those as "off duty" hours, lol.

You keep reading those company newsletters and believing it. In case you haven't read the latest, the Walmart driver was driving a truck equipped with ELD, along with most other driver safety nanny devices on the market today. It was not a factor officially. But why care about that annoying detail? Just join the ignorant public that believes "he didn't get enough sleep, so must have been cheating on his logs somehow." I hear Anne Ferro is quitting, maybe there's an opportunity for you!

I can imagine that his decision to hammer down in a construction zone might have been influenced by the fact his ELD was flashing he had under 30 minutes remaining to reach his final stop, with only a few minutes less ETA remaining to spare before getting a violation logged. Makes me wonder if he knew he could pencil in an extra 15-30 minutes and slow down, if it would have made any difference? Probably not, if the story about him being up all night is proven true. Although lower speed may have reduced the severity of the crash, or gained an extra fraction of a second to steer into something else besides a van full of celebrities.

Unfortunately, ELD only babysits line 3. Unless yours has an eyelid detector or something that auto-logs line 1/2 for you. If Keven Roper did as they say, and drove 12 hours to work before beginning his 14 on-duty, that's on him. ELD also doesn't go home with you to make sure you take your mandatory naps.

I get my news from road dog on Sirius and from reading the news on this site. Not company news letters and what about the man who just killed 4 people in a construction zone. Found to be speeding and forging logs? What should the government do? Allow outlaw trucking still? Considering that being a professional driver is continually making the top 10 most dangerous jobs in America year after year. I'm not saying I agree with them. I'm just asking you one question. If you are running legally on paper, why wouldn't you want something that makes logging and communicating and helping you organize your loads in your truck?

Maybe come up with a HOS solution that fits a workflow other than a union mega carrier driver doing only drop/hook line hauls? Of course that would mean listening to actual industry experts other than the ones pumping money into their pockets and guaranteeing them cushy executive and consulting jobs when they finally get tired of being public servants.

So nobody even answered my question. This is why I don't post here anymore. This is the problem with our industry. No professionalism. Can't even answer a simple question. Like talking to politicians. Good luck everyone and stay safe out there.
