I've been with my trainer OTR for the past month. We did several loads, one of the loads brought us back to Spokane and I was able to spend my "reset" at home. Week later another load brought us back by Spokane and I spent a night at home. Now two weeks later it's been a month and I'm getting my 4 days off for 4 weeks spent OTR.
As far as "fuel solution" we haven't had problems with it. It's always on the route where we're going to and we didn't have to wait in line to get fueled very long at all. Usually there was open spot available right away when we'd pull up into fuel island. Do your load check/fueling at same time so you won't have to stop until your next 150 mile/3 hour load check. Yeah sure, I don't like stopping for load checks, takes a little bit of time away but its rule that you have to follow. In the end if you don't like working for this company you can find plenty of other companies to work for, take care of your CDL and you will never be without a job. If you want more authority (which sounds like you do) you need to think about becoming owner/operator.

Glad to hear training is going well for you and your getting home plenty. My 1st trainer spent 3/7 nights in Spokane (owner op that lived there) but since i didn't live in Spokane all that amounted to was me sitting in a hotel a bunch. I thought the same way you do when i was at your level of experience and even for several months afterward. If you last here long enough as a solo driver you'll begin to understand my point of view.

The training world you are in right now is extremely different than what things will be like once you go Solo. They train their trainers to do things a certain way for certain reasons.

I'm not going to go into detail on that right now because i don't want to mess with what your trainer is trying to teach you, but just trust me when i tell you that you and i are in completely different worlds and we will be until you've been in your own truck for 6 months minimum.

How can you control fuel mileage. I mean when truck is loaded it will get 5-6mpg etc vs unloaded empty ~9. You don't have whole lot to control about fuel mileage, they already tuned trucks so they won't rev past 1500rpm and speed is governed at 65 mph and you can't idle it more than 5 minutes.

For me with On the pole fleet if I didn't want to fuel somewhere I called dispatch and asked them to replan my route and fuel. They always had no issue with me doing that. Sure it's time you don't get paid for to fuel but it's their truck. They get to decide that. I was 100% on my fuel routing when I left. Yeah you save a bit of time doing it your way but how much did you cost yourself by missing out on the raise?
Not trying to be hard on you, now that I've switched to running my own rig I now see the value in picking and choosing fuel spots. It's a lesson that cost me a good chunk of change to figure out last week. This game is won and lost on fuel prices and freight rates. And they aren't getting that good of rates for most of the standard freight they do. Just my .02

All fair points and as always i respect and appreciate your opinion, but I do reach a point where I'm doing so much work for free and being micromanaged so heavily I just DGAF anymore. The raise is worth 600 bucks a year maximum. Getting to fuel where i want and run the roads i want is worth 600 bucks a year to me every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I got my 1yr in now though. Not much reason to stick around.

Hopefully your business is going well. We got a couple of your Companies cattle trailers stowed over here at the FJ in Bozeman. You guys getting ready for a big move before winter or something?

Bozeman livestock auction is tomorrow morning. I'm sitting in billings right now, I may head that way tomorrow or just load here. Just depends on what the meat packing plant in Minnesota buys at the auctions. I'm doing good so far, I'm averaging $2.30 on all miles and running hard. I did 4600 miles this week. Just taking a 34 now
